## **1. Reference & Administrative Information**

The trustees are responsible for ensuring the charity complies with its governing document, relevant legislation, and best practice guidance issued by the Charity Commission. 

## **2. Objectives & Activities** 

The KMJ Foundation was established in memory of **Kamau McCallum James** to advance the lives of young people aged 11–25 and their families across Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees area. Our purpose is to **support, enable, and empower young people—particularly those experiencing mental health, physical health, or emotional wellbeing challenges—to thrive and fulfil their potential** . 

During the reporting period, the charity delivered activities aligned to its charitable objectives, including: 

- Operating youth cafés and safe drop-in spaces. 

- Providing one-to-one mentoring, counselling, and peer support. 

- Delivering sessions on healthy eating, confidence building, and recreation. 

- Promoting employability, volunteerism, and enterprise opportunities. 

These activities directly further the charity’s aims and provide public benefit in accordance with Charity Commission guidance. 

## **3. Achievements & Performance** 

During _2024/2025_ , the foundation made meaningful progress in engaging and supporting young people: 

- **Youth Engagement:** Working with partners towards the development of supportive spaces. 

- **Mental Health & Wellbeing Support:** We delivered more 10 hours of mentoring and coaching, helping participants build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem. 

- **Partnership Working:** We strengthened collaboration with local agencies, youth organisations, and community partners across West Yorkshire, enabling a more coordinated and strategic approach to youth development. 

The charity’s activities are delivering clear public benefit and contributed positively to the wellbeing of young people in the community. 



## **4. Financial Review** 

**Total Income:** £ _950_ Income was generated through community fundraising, grants, and individual donations. 

**Total Expenditure:** £ _0_ Expenditure was applied directly to charitable activities, including youth space operations, mentoring resources, and community outreach. 

**Reserves Policy:** The trustees maintain a reserves policy to ensure the charity can continue delivering its core activities without disruption. Adequate reserves are held to safeguard the continuity of our peer support, counselling programmes, and youth café operations. 

The trustees confirm that the charity remains financially stable and continues to manage funds prudently and in line with Charity Commission guidance. 

## **5. Future Plans** 

In the forthcoming reporting year, the KMJ Foundation intends to: 

- Develop a youth café and drop-in services in Huddersfield. 

- Rung workshops for 16–25-year-olds. 

- Recruit and train additional volunteers from the local community. 

- Strengthen partnerships with local schools, youth organisations, and health services to widen access and impact. 

These plans will support the continued growth of the charity and deepen our commitment to improving outcomes for young people. 

## **6. Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities** 

The trustees acknowledge their responsibility for: 

- Ensuring the charity keeps proper accounting records. 

- Preparing an annual report and accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011. 

- Safeguarding the assets of the charity and ensuring they are used solely for charitable purposes. 

- Managing risks and ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are in place. 

## **7. Declaration** 

The trustees declare that they have approved this Annual Report & Trustees’ Review and confirm that it complies with the requirements of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
