The objects of the cio are: to relieve the suffering and emotional distress amongst parents and families resident in Essex and the surrounding area, who have experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, sudden infant death syndrome, illness, infection, accident, or terminal illness in particular but
not exclusively by:- (a) supporting newly bereaved parents by the provision of keepsakes
(b) providing or assisting in the provision of items to hospital units not otherwise made available by the nhs. (c) raising awareness of meconium aspiration syndrome, pulmonary embolisms, sepsis and baby loss.
OUR YEAR
We held our first event since Covid-19 at My Big Fat Greek Taverna in June 2022. The amazing drag artist Terry Tours was the star of the show and helped raise £870 just in ticket sales, plus local businesses donating great raffle prizes to help us raise extra.
Unfortunately we were required to buy several funeral flower arrangements, urns and keepsakes for families around the country. Colchester Hospital gained lots of children's books for the siblings who have experienced loss.
We have raised awareness by investing in a coin spinner which is housed in a extremely busy supermarket with a footfall of thousands. We continue to support fellow small charities on social media and help break the taboo surrounding loss.
CHAIRS WORDS
Joanne Harris-Beck, Founder & Chair
I am very pleased with how the last year went. We have continued to raise awareness and help those in need. I look forward to what 2023/2024 brings.
OUR INSPIRATION
Oakley’s Gift was originally founded in December 2018 after the founder’s son was born via emergency c-section. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the medical team he died of meconium aspiration syndrome. His parents did not want his little life to be forgotten and wanted to turn their grief into something positive. That is when Oakley’s Gift was created. The name was suggested by Natashia, our treasurer. That’s exactly what we wanted to do, gift. Our love for Oakley is the force that drives us in all we do.
