The objects of the cio are: to relieve the suffering and emotional distress amongst parents and families resident in Essex and the surrounding area, who have experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, sudden infant death syndrome, illness, infection, accident, or terminal illness in particular but
not exclusively by:- (a) supporting newly bereaved parents by the provision of keepsakes
(b) providing or assisting in the provision of items to hospital units not otherwise made available by the nhs. (c) raising awareness of meconium aspiration syndrome, pulmonary embolisms, sepsis and baby loss.
Due to the impact of Covid-19 we were very reliant on the support of donations from local people and businesses. Yellow Brick Road Nursery raised an incredible amount of £800 in memory of baby Rosie. Holland Park Primary School held a non-uniform day and raised £400. In September the support continued when Deans Tackle held a fishing contest and raised £800.
In terms of raising awareness the founder Joanne was interviewed by Fabulous Magazine, which is sold along with The Sun. This was an opportunity we were very grateful for. During the Christmas Light Switch On we had a stall and met members of the public and told them about our work,
Thanks to the fundraising we were able to purchase a pram for Doncaster Royal Infirmary so parents could transport their baby with dignity. Basildon Hospital were in need of brand new baby sleepsuits, and within the same day of making contact we had them ordered. Families have also been gifted funeral flowers, urns and other keepsakes.
Joanne Harris-Beck, Founder & Chair As always we are so appreciative of the continued support of local people, and those from afar who have discovered us. In 2021 we welcomed River, Oakley's little brother and he has been keeping us busy. This highlighted the importance of support in pregnancy after loss, and we hope to be able to focus on this in the near future.
Oakley’s Gift was originally founded in December 2018 after the founder’s son was born via emergency c-section. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the medical team he died of meconium aspiration syndrome. His parents did not want his little life to be forgotten and wanted to turn their grief into something positive. That is when Oakley’s Gift was created. The name was suggested by Natashia, our treasurer. That’s exactly what we wanted to do, gift. Our love for Oakley is the force that drives us in all we do.
"Oakley's gift help us out massively when our baby boy passed away back in march 2022. They kindly brought him 3 named wreaths exactly how I wanted them & what I wanted them to say. They helped massively in our time of grief-stricken heartache. "
"Oakley's Gift were a lifeline to me when I felt at my most alone"
"We were so thankful to have been able to receive keepsakes"
