The Trustees present their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Our Aims
New Leaf Alresford was registered as a CIO on the 4[th] March 2020 and this is the Trustees sixth annual report.
The charity operates under the New Leaf Alresford Constitution dated 10[th] August 2024 to comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.
The objects of the charity are to promote, for the benefit of the public, the conservation and improvement of the physical and natural environment. This is achieved by providing information and guidance, improving environmental awareness and promoting sustainable living.
New Leaf Alresford aims to provide local information and advice, to help the community adopt the positive changes needed to tackle climate change, promote sustainability and protect our environment through the New Leaf Website: www.newleafalresford.org and via Facebook and Instagram. We participate locally on projects which help to tackle climate change, reduce waste and boost biodiversity.
Our Objectives
Our objectives are set to reflect our aims of promoting sustainability and waste reduction, tackling climate change and boosting biodiversity.
Our objectives for the year included:
To continue its work and grow and develop its membership and links with other community groups.
To hold future community events using the experience, volunteers and materials we have garnered from the events held this year. To continue to support the verges management pilot in Alresford.
To reduce waste and increase recycling locally.
Promoting greener, more sustainable living.
Review of Activities and Achievement
To Grow and Develop New Leaf Membership
Monthly ‘New Leaf Natter’ meetings have continued. Attendance levels vary but 14 individuals have attended in the last 12 months and volunteered at events with New Leaf Alresford, including 2 newcomers. New Leaf members attended networking events and meetings held by similar groups including the Winchester Downs Cluster, the Upper Itchen Restoration Group, Transition Towns Workshop and Hampshire Climate Action Network to establish relationships and increase opportunities for collaboration and sharing of ideas.
Community Awareness, New Leaf Website and Social Media
The charity continues to maintain and update the New Leaf website, providing information as well as adding new content, which is promoted through social media, to encourage people to visit the website. This year in addition to promoting New Leaf events we continued the feature on local sustainability champions, where local community members talk about the changes they have made in their own lives to be more sustainable. We also provided an update on the community growing project.
2 New Leaf Alresford Trustees attended a meeting of the Probus group and provided an introduction to New Leaf and its activities. New Leaf also attended local events including the Watercress Festival and the Alresford Show and spoke to the public.
Garden and Green Fair
In June 2025, New Leaf Alresford in conjunction with the New Alresford Town Trust, held its first Garden and Green Fair in Broad Street. The fair was a celebration of local growers, producers, craftspeople, and community groups and was attended by around 300 people. New Leaf Alresford provided a number of educational activities as well as a ‘Toy Swap’ and a ‘Plant Pot Amnesty’ which enabled these items to be reused and the residual was recycled.
Sustainable Transport Workshop
In November 2025, New Leaf held a Sustainable Transport Workshop at The Swan delivered by Anna Heron from Winchester City Council. Approximately 20 local people representing groups within the town including the rotary, churches, Perins School, New Alresford Town Council and Town Trust attended the workshop which explored ideas to be developed for the future transport within the town.
‘System Update – Rebooting our Future’ Film screening
In January 2026, New Leaf Alresford hosted a screening of the film ‘System Update – Rebooting our Future’ at the Perins School. 130 people attended including four panellists who agreed to take part in the post-film question and answer session, Perins’ Geography teachers and pupils and interested members of the community.
The film offered a vital look at how transformative shifts in politics, economics, and society can protect people from climate catastrophe. This was followed by a question and answer session a panel which included the film’s producer and director Paul Maple; local MP Danny
Chambers; Simon James, retired Investment Manager; and Ian Williams, Professor of Applied Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.
The Tree Giveaway
In January 2026, in conjunction with Hampshire Forest Partnership (HCC), New Leaf gave away 107 young trees to residents to be planted in gardens in the town.
Reusable Plastic Cups
In 2022, the charity received approximately 2000 unwanted Alresford Music Festival branded reusable plastic cups. The charity continued operating a cup hire scheme which generates some income and reduces single plastic consumption.
Thermal Camera Loan Scheme
In December 2022, New Alresford Town Council purchased a thermal imaging camera to help Alresford residents reduce their carbon emissions and winter fuel bills. The camera allows residents to identify areas of heat loss in their homes, so that they can do something about it. The charity continued to administer the camera loan scheme for the town.
Community Growing
The community growing project has continued to go from strength to strength. The greenhouse was completed and the WhatsApp group continues with 11 members who volunteer their time at the allotment. Endeavours for the allotment to provide an opportunity for social prescribing have so far not seen any uptake.
EV Charger Audit
In February 2026, New Leaf conducted an audit of EV charger use within the town and provided the data to Winchester City Council.
Safe Guarding Policy’
The charity has appointed a Safe Guarding Officer and approved its Safe Guarding Policy.
Future Plans
To continue its work and to grow and develop its membership and links with other community groups.
To continue to develop the community growing project and increase interaction with the community.
To hold future community events using the experience, volunteers and materials we have garnered from the events held this year.
To develop ideas raised in the Sustrans Workshop
Our Finances
The main source of income in this year was from events and the charity made approximately £274 profit from the film screening, £51 from holding the Green Fair and £43 from having a stall at the Watercress festival.
The charity also made a small profit from hiring out the reusable plastic cups and selling reusable Alresford shopping bags.
Funds were used to continue supporting the community growing and purchase of a gazebo and folding tables to be used when attending events. A donation from the previous year was used to buy a greenhouse for the allotment.
