Trustee selection
The charity recruits trustees as needed. typically when a skills gap is
identified or when a IWSt￿ retires.
A potential candKlate is selected by using a network of contacts. The role
is discussed with the candidate who would then meet with other trustees
and observe a trustees. meeting before the position would be fonnally
offered or confirmed.

Vvhen a trustee is appointed. they are required to read 'The Essential
Trustee.. guidan￿ published by the Charty Commission, and make
themselves familiar wth our policieslpfocedures. If they have any
quests'ons, they are encouraged to ask the Chair or other trustees.

The trustees have examined the major strategic. business and operational
risks which the charity fa￿s, hence our series of policieslprocedures. The
most signrficant risk is associated wth the charity's safeguarding and
welfare of ils member5. The charity takes every step to ensure that rt
provides a safe environment for tts members, visitors. volunteers and
staff.

The objects of the CIO are to promote the welfare of the aged in any
manner which now is or hereafter may be deemed by law to be charitable
and in particular. to cater for those aged over 60. mainly Itving in
Cookham and district. in need of day centre care, that is particularly the
lonely, the frail and the eldedy: and to F)rovide Spa￿ for their needs and
companionship.

Elizabeth House provides its members with companionship as well as
access to a wide range of facilities, together with the aim of promoting
wider community involvement and integration.
The charity achieves this by providing the test possible care and support
lo its members and by makn'ng full use of its facilities and the passion of
its staff and volunteers.

Elizabeth House Day Centre could not operate without the dedication and
input of volunteers who give their time and skills lo the members arKI
staff.
The volunteers carry out several roles including driving members to and
from the Centre,. preparing and serving lunches and hot drinks.. helping
the members to have an enjoyable and stimulating ts'me while at the
Centre.

Summary ofthe main
achievements of the ¢lwrity
during the year
Elizabeth House is continuing to thrive as a Day Centre and deliver on its
misston of providing support and companionship to independent senior
dtizens in the local community.
By the nature of our charity. which serves older people, we have had a
turnover of our members over the year but we have levera8ed our
contacts with social providers within The Royal Borough of Windsor and
Maidenhead. our local GPS and pharmacies and raisin8 our profile with
the Voluntary Sector in our Borough to ensure that they (an dirert the
elderly to us if it is seen that they would benefit from what we offer.
This has helped to maintain our membership level at around 170 at the
end of the financial year 2026.
Our new cook, who joined us in October 2024, ha5 produced a variety of
nutritious cooked lunches which are very well liked a5 well as being good
for you,. We have attivtties in the mornin8 and afternoon of every
weekday and whilst some are standard on some days of the week,
notably our exercise classes, we have introduced new people to come
and entertain ~ musical acts, different quizzers, different talks. - and we
are continuing with new forms of exercise, activtties and outin85 into this
current financial year. Our chiropodist and hairdresser still provide their
seNices to members on our premises. Our programme contributes to
the wellbeing of our members, both mentally and physically, in an
enjoyable way.
We have our army of 80 volunteers. The volunteers cover driving
members to and from Elizabeth House. serving tealcoffee and bi5CUit5 in
the morning, helping the cook prepare lunch, laying tables and servin
lunch. clearin8 away and washing up. and running activities or chatting to
our members. They help with our fundraising activities and assist with
supporting members on outings. We are extremely grateful to all of
them for what they do and how well they do tt. And our volunteers do
tell us how much they personally get back. We were proud to give out
our long service awards at our volunteers thank you, party in March and
these awards are testament to the commitment of our volunteers. We
had I certificate for 40 year51 other recipients have been with us for
between 10 to 25 years. We are also part of the Room to Reward scheme
which alSows us to nominate volunteers who have consistently gone over
nd above their normal volunteering dutie5 to support the running of the
Day Centre and tts members. We had 3 nominations accepted in 2025.
The Day Centre could not run without the expertise of our manager, our
cook and bookkeeper/administrator who do an excellent job of lookin8
after our member5 and volL2nteers. Our staff are much loved and
appreciated.
The running of the Day Centre is in large part funded by membership
subscriptions and a daily fee. plus money from room rentals. These costs
were increased as of September 2025 in order to improve our
sustainability from self-generated income. We had a very successful

year of fundraising and all these combined accounted for 76% of our
income in year ending March 2026. an upward shift from 70% the year
befo￿. It is expected that this percenta8e will increase in this current
financial yearwhen we have a full 12 months of the price increases.
There were 2 significant fundraising events added to our calendar in 2025
our President, Mandy Brar, who at the time was mayor ofThe Royal
Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, put on an Indian themed evening
which raised £3.750. and one of our very lon8Standing members, Geraint
Lewis. sponsored The London Welsh Male Voice Choir for a concert at
Holy Trinity Church. Cookham, which raised £4.100 for us. We are very
grateful indeed for these special achievements. Our regular fLtndraisers
which we run each year were more successful even than previous years
and we appreciate very much the help from our staff, volunteers and
trustees who made all this happen. On top ofthese income streams we
do rely on donations and grants to meet our expendtture. Again we
were delighted to receive an increase of 6% in donation5llegacies and
30% in 8rants compared to the previous year and so our overall financial
performance forthe year was significantly better. We 3re extremely
grateful to all the organisations who help fund our activities, running
costs and project5 which allow us to maintain the service that we provide
to our members.
As ever, our most important achievement is creating a comfortable place
where members enjoy their day. The staff and volunteers do
tremendous job supporting and engaging with our members. Everyone
at Elizabeth House can be proud to be involved with such a successful
charTty.

It is the policy of Elizabeth House to maintain unrestrictéd funds which
are the free reserves held by the Charty at a level sufficient to meet the
annual running costs.
