The Board of Trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements of the Charity, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) for the year ended 30[th] September 2024 

## **Introduction** 

West Herts Environmental Foundation (“the Foundation”) was founded on 4[th] March 2020. The Foundation’s full name is The West Herts Environmental Foundation, this can be shortened to WHEF. 

## **Objectives and Activities.** 

The objectives of the Foundation are to promote for the benefit of the public the advancement of environmental protection and improvement in West Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. 

During the year ended 30 September 2024 the Trustees inspected the work undertaken by The Woodland Trust at Harrocks Wood in the previous year, with financial support from WHEF. The Trustees were satisfied with the progress achieved there. 

WHEF did not make any donations towards projects during the year ended 30 September 2024. The Trustees hope that there will be projects worthy of support in the coming year.

## **Achievements and Performance** 

The Foundation is a charity with a long term time horizon seeking to make a positive impact on the environment in West Hertfordshire. The impact of the Foundation’s various initiatives will also be long term. 

The Trustees would like to thank those that have given their time without charge, including the Hon Treasurer, Mr. Graham Meager. 

## **Public Benefit** 

The Trustees of the Foundation have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. 

## **Financial Review** 

Donations of £103 were received during the year. Administrative costs of £221 were incurred during the year by the Foundation, resulting in a deficit of £118. 

The Foundation’s cash at bank at the year end was £14,312. 

## **Reserves Policy** 

To “Maintain sufficient Reserves to enable the Charity to fulfil all financial commitments made by the Trustees.” 

## **Structure** 

The Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered charity number 1188336. 

## **Governance and Management** 

The charity Trustees are as follows: 

John Duncan Verulam (for 4 years from 2020, then re-appointed for a further 4 years)) James Walter Grimston (for 3 years from 2020, then re-appointed for a further 3 years) Paul Barnes (for 2 years from 2020, then twice re-appointed for a further 2 years) Katherine Docherty (for 3 years from 2021, then re-appointed for a further 3 years)) 

The Trustees will select additional or replacement Trustees with regard for the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the Foundation.

## **ACCOUNTING POLICIES** 

## **1. Basis of accounting** 

These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis as permitted by law for smaller charities. 

The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern. 

## **2. Fund accounting** 

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the objectives of the charity. Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure imposed by the donor or by the appeal of the charity. 

## **3. Donations** 

Donated income is recognised on a received basis. 

## **Trustee remuneration and benefits** 

None of the Trustees have been paid any remuneration or received any benefits from any employment with the charity or a related party.
