●Continued our Project at Twende Education for All at the children’s cancer and sickle cells units at UTH hospital, Lusaka,Zambia until 7th January 2023 (started December 2022) Teacher training days - Zambia Training new staf at the sickle cell learning centre to improve the quality of teaching and learning mathematics in sickle cell wards. Cancer centre - continue to build on existing maths knowledge and introduce reasoning rods as a new maths resource. We also supplied more Rummikub games. Introduced and explored the new Christancia’s Making Maths Fun learning kits for students in isolation wards or those who were bed ridden. There are 4 diferent kit ages and activities in each centre (2 kits of each level) Established checking in and out protocols. The idea of the kits came about last year when a child, Christancia who was in isolation was asking to come to the learning centre to do maths. Unfortunately 2 days later she died and we created the kits in her memory. Set up proper labelled storage trays for each centre so maths resources could be stored properly. Modelled maths lessons for teachers with children from 3 to 17 years old. Twende and GOTM checked in with Mwateshi school’s headteacher to ensure the resources we supplied them with last year were still being used and intact. Tanzania Bandari School, Tanzania started 8th January 2023 until 4th March 2023 |
Teacher Training Days Bandari - continued to build on teachers skills and train new teachers, invited teachers from Majengo Orphanage school to attend. Training was run by Lana and Gail, two primary teachers who have expertise in mathematics. The inservice day covered Using maths games to promote conceptual understanding, warm ups to start maths lessons, using concrete materials to promote mathematical thinking and conceptual understanding and songs to conceptualise mathematics. Lana and Gail volunteered their time for 2 weeks, modelling maths lessons, collaborating with teachers, team teaching and mentoring. For a week we invited the teachers from Majengo Orphanage school to come to Bandari School and watch the Tanzanian teachers teach mathematics. For the remainder of the year our locally employed GOTM teacher worked at Majengo on a fortnightly basis modelling maths lessons. GOTM continued to employ a local Teacher in Mto Wa Mbu who supported the Bandari Project School in addition to continuing an outreach program in other local schools by training teachers and modelling lessons using the 100 and 120 pocket chart and in addition to supporting Majengo Orphanage school. This continued for the whole year. Monthly training in Mathematics across all primary years classes (observation and participation) for the GOTM locally employed teacher at St Constantine's International school in Arusha GOTM formed a partnership with Majengo Children’s home and supplied them with our foundation manipulative kit for teaching. Kenya We held a weekend inservice training on the foundations of maths in Mombasa which was attended by teachers of Cornerstone and Shikamana schools. GOTM founder teacher and locally employed Tanzania teacher went to Kenya to implement our program at Cornerstone School in Mombasa. Cornerstone is an incredibly impoverished school with hardly any space and resources. The founder and teachers are very passionate and dedicated to the children’s learning. We spent 5 days in the classes modelling maths lessons to the teachers using our resources. GOTM also ran some inservice at Shikamana School in Diani. This school proved difficult to communicate and collaborate with at a higher level. The teachers themselves were very eager, however the overseas UK organiser and management was a challenge. The teachers welcomed us into their classes and the students appeared to grasp concepts in this school a lot quicker. The teachers called a meeting to discuss mathematics learning and teaching. This is a school we would like to support in the future if their management is sorted out.

During that time she held teacher inset days on Mathematics, language and collaboration with Zawadi Lukamay the locally employed teacher in both Tanzania and Kenya. Lana and Gail, two international primary maths teachers and specialists, volunteered for 2 weeks. Their expertise in Math was invaluable to GOTM and the local teachers. Sandrine and Colin, both secondary teachers from France, volunteered for 10 days at our Bandari School in Tanzania, focusing on teaching and assisting in classrooms in both maths and literacy. |
Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference |
Achievements and Performance New projects We started 2 new projects in Mombasa and Diani at Cornerstone and Shikamanaschool. Cornerstone takes in the poorest children in the village and provides them with free education and food. The school conditions are hot and cramped. Both schools, particularly Cornerstone, have very few resources. The founder, Grace, collaborated with us and agreed to form a long term partnership with GOTM. |

| to society as a whole. Having a locally employed teacher has continued to be a great asset to GOTM and the Bandari Project. Taking Zawadi to Kenya gave her greater responsibility in the organisation and empowered her to make a diference in African schools and communities. Zawadi has become more competent and confdent in her maths teaching and leadership. With Zawadi’s continued support in the classrooms at Bandari and her teacher training at international schools, the teacher and students have benefted from her expertise. Daily she supports in classes teaching mathematics using manipulatives. The students confdently use materials to explore new concepts and ideas in mathematics. All students at Bandari in the national exam tests received A, B or C in Mathematics. We seconded Zawadi from the Bandari Project for the year of 2023. This will be renegotiated in 2024 if required. This year Zawadi continued her outreach program at Majengo School in two classes. Majengo received our foundation kit as their class sizes are small. She also modelled lessons at Kigongoni School with Nursery, Grade 2 and 3 using the 100 and 120 chart as this is our own resource we can use with large groups. Edx Education continues to donate 100 and 120 pocket charts for use at the local schools. GOTM continued to receive support from an international school in Arusha -St Constantine's school. We are grateful for their support as it allows Zawadi to observe and partake in mathematics lessons in an international primary setting. Through these observations she gains more knowledge and ideas that she can use in the local schools in Mto Wa Mbu. The success of our project was training more teachers across all three countries. |

| Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern |
Para 1.23 | As we stated in 2022, In the foreseeable future it is still uncertain if we are able to obtain more volunteers due to rising costs throughout the world. Due to basic living costs rising, the projects to run are becoming more expensive and there are less people donating money and people may not have the spare money to volunteer on a project. It is imperative we maintain good reliable staf on the ground in each country and place a GOTM local hire in Zambia and Tanzania over the next couple of years to further build the projects in these countries. |
