## **Brough Agricultural Society Annual Review** 

- a) The 2025 show was a great success, helped by good weather and the success of the new stage and even more interest in the dog show 

- b) Sheep appeared to go very well, however in future the trophies should be handed out at the sheep pens and not at the Secretaries tent. A gazebo may be necessary to do this 

- c) Horse and Pony feedback went well. Some competitors not happy about sashes replacing trophies and informed help was needed taking entries on the day. The commentator Libby was excellent, and we should try our best to retain her services for next year 

- d) The small mammals tent was good but the absence of poultry over the last few years was noticeable 

- e) Horticulture, baking and craft entries were lower than previous year. While the food entries were excellent the traditional handicraft entries (knitting, sewing etc.) was disappointing. Suggestions included advertising earlier and in parish magazines etc. 

- f) The dog show was a great success, even more popular in previous years. Some members feel that more can developed such as expanding the ring to include agility. 

- g) All the craft tent sellers had already re-booked for 2026. There was a good balance of items for sale. The trade stands were oversubscribed and the feeling is the pitch price for the food stands, in particular, is too low. Otherwise very successful 

- h) All of the stewards did an excellent job this year and the entry points were well marshalled 

- i) Field layout was generally very good. Perhaps some of the trade stands were too close to the entrance where there is a slope and access to the stage could have been better. Next year, more trade stands may need to be accommodated further up towards the secretaries tent / Dog show ring? All agreed that there should be more waste bins on the site located next to tents, etc. 



- **j)** There was a modest deficit, due mainly to increased costs and additional items need for the stage entertainment. The Christmas dominoes evening and Ladies committee’s soup and sweet helped to recoup most of the deficit. 

- **k)** Donations were made to the Kirkby Stephen Silver Band and to Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue.
