## Chairman’s Report for AGM 2024

The year has been one of consolida=on, moving from the trauma of the Covid years to a more steady and established way of running the Museum. As ever, we opened our doors to visitors aDer Easter 2023, which necessitated much ac=vity in the preceding weeks to make the building and contents fit and ready. We are fortunate to have a band of volunteers who are prepared to spend =me cleaning and ensuring that the Museum is as welcoming as we all like it to be.

The year’s exhibi=on was based on sport and with many original photographs of spor=ng teams and individuals, it was interes=ng to see how many par=cipants it was possible to iden=fy. There were also trophies, items of clothing and sports equipment donated and loaned to the Museum for the occasion.

A number of tours of the Palace grounds and the Museum were arranged which proved to be popular and well aMended. English Heritage have been par=cularly co-opera=ve and, fully aware of the historical importance of the site, have taken major steps to make it a valuable asset for Bishop’s Waltham, both for its residents and its visitors. It has been agreed that a viewing plaSorm will be constructed in the West Tower and the final details are in the process of being seMled.

We have had a small decline in our membership over the year which we have plans to correct. Visitor dona=ons have also been down, possibly due to fewer people carrying cash. In consequence, we are exploring ways of making it easier for cards to be used as well. As you can see from the Finance report, we remain solvent with a healthy bank balance and we con=nue to seek ways to make our Museum an even greater aMrac=on to visit.
