**Charity Number: 1188127** ## **Little Furries Rabbit Rescue** **TRUSTEES REPORT AND FINANCIAL STATEMENT FOR THE PERIOD 1st Sept 2020 TO 31[st] Aug 2021** 1 ## **Little Furries Rabbit Rescue Trustees Annual Report 1[st] Aug 2020 TO 30[th] September 2021** ## **The organisation's purposes are:** 1. To relieve the suffering of stray and unwanted rabbits and guinea pigs who are in need of care and attention and to provide treatment for sick or ill treated animals. 2. To provide and maintain shelter and other facilities for the reception and care of stray and unwanted animals and to re-home where possible or sanctuary for the elderly and disabled. 3. To educate the public in all aspects of animal care and welfare. 4. Assist with local wildlife calls predominantly birds, in the rehabilitation with a view to release back to the wild. ## **How we carry out these purposes:** 1. We respond to calls from members of the public who find stray or abandoned rabbits and guinea pigs in the streets or dumped in public places. 2. We respond and assist local veterinary clinics with rabbits and guinea pigs brought in by members of the public or surrendered by individuals. 3. We provide safe shelter for rabbits and guinea pigs and medical care where necessary. 4. We educate potential adopters and carry out home checks and provide advice on the welfare and care of rabbits and guinea pigs in accordance with the RWAF guidelines and RSPCA guidelines. ## **Our Founding** We registered as a Charity in February 2020, we had 38 Rabbits and 6 Guinea Pigs in residence on this date. ## **The charity trustees are as follows:–** 1. Nico Dattani 2. Cinzia Delegate 3. Lyndsey Murfet 4. Uriel Solnitzky ## **Income & Expenditure** The end of the year accounts show an Income of £ **24137.24** . Expenditure of £ **23876.09** leaving a surplus of £ **261.15.** ## **Fundraising Activities** We were lucky to be nominated by Waitrose West Ealing for their Green Token Scheme in June raising a total of £333. The RWAF nominated us for their Sponsor a Rescue Campaign which raised £476.50. Charity Number: 1188127 Little Furries Rabbit Rescue 2 In addition, we are blessed to be selected by supporters for Birthday Fundraisers on Facebook and people using the Easyfundraising app to support us. We are now seeing a few more regular donors. Every little helps towards the ever growing vet bills. ## **Volunteer Support** It has proven extremely difficult to recruit regular consistent help. The founding trustees, Cinzia Delegate and Nico Dattani, were the sole operational support in the running of the charity. ## **Review of the Year** The repercussions of the COVID pandemic have continued to present significant challenges for us as well as the entire rabbit rescue community. LFRR is situated in the worst possible location amidst 5 Pets at Home stores and Squires Garden Centre that also sells small animals. Coupled with a concentration of people. On 23[rd] March 2021, The Vet Times reported an increase in rabbit sales of 212% in the first lockdown alone versus 55% puppies and 58% kittens. This was only a fraction of the true figures based on insured pets only. www.vettimes.co.uk/news/rabbits-hop-to-top-of-lockdown-pops We were forced to temporarily close the rescue in mid April for 6 weeks whilst Cinzia had her Carpal Tunnel operation, adding further pressure to the rescue with reduced donations over that period of publicly visible inactivity. On reopening 1[st] June, we introduced Adoption fees by donation, grooming & nail cutting fees by donation. At that point we had 51 rabbits under our care, 6 guinea pigs, 3 cats, 2 parrots and endless supply of wildlife in the midst of nesting season. This is a snapshot of the rabbits coming in/out and turned away or rereferred (shown as Additional Requests). There is a clear increase in requests quarter on quarter. Overall – we have had another tough year but have just about managed to keep things ticking over.
