Para 1.38
Contribution made by
volunteers
Para 1.38 All the activities provided by EIWW are
provided by unpaid volunteers including those
duties fulfilled by the trustees. Due to the
forced suspension of activities in the previous

two years volunteer numbers were somewhat reduced during 2022. During 2022-23 the charity moved to recruit Other – some new trustees to establish an enlarged Trustees and Governance board of governance such that they could help progress the aims of the charity. In February 2023 a new trustee, Stephen Nayler, was appointed who took over as chairperson from Ian Forrester, who stood down as a trustee. In March an additional trustee was appointed, Debra Canavan, who is a former British Disabled Water Ski Team member. The board intends to recruit another trustee in 2023-24 to bring the board of governance up to a total of five.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 2022 can be characterised as a season of re-
starting and re-connecting after the two
previous year’s forced suspension of activities
due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of the
clients and support workers who had
previously made use of the charity had either
moved on or changed habits. As such the
charity’s sessions were not as well attended as
in the past particularly at the start of the
summer season. Through a process of re-
engagement with previous service users and
the exploration of potential new users the
season ended positively, included the provision
of a special additional session especially for the
Help For Heroes foundation. This was provided
in association with British Water Ski &
Wakeboard who contributed additional
funding. The session was very successful and
set a pathway for H4H to participate more fully
in the future.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The financial period ended with £8413 of
cash funds held in its bank account. The
charity saw income from water ski course
fees of £1296 with other minor income
totalling £1519 of receipts overall.
Expenses relating to boat and lake hire for
the sessions were increased by the host
club (Ellingham Water Ski & Wakeboard).
This, combined with relatively low uptake
post-pandemic, led to an overall operating
deficit for the accessible water ski sessions
EIWW operated. In addition, due to the lack
of activity in the previous two years, some
new volunteers were enrolled who required
additional training which in turn increased
expenditure. As a result, EIWW saw a
deficit in its operating cost of £778. To grow
the activities of the charity and reach out to
new users, the trustees decided it was
important to re-invest in and modernise the
facilities it offers. The majority of the
charity’s clients are wheelchair users
however the changing facilities for them
had fallen into disrepair and needed urgent
replacement. The trustees decided to use
some of the long-term deposits held by the
charity to make a capital expenditure of
£6300 towards the purchase of a
replacement accessible toilet and shower
facility specifically for use by wheelchair
users. This project was co-financed by
Ellingham Water Ski Club who match
funded the EIWW contribution. Total
expenditure for 2022-23 was £8597.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held

inspection fees, etc).
