Message from The Vemoye Foundation’s CEO – Korede Awobowale

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we reflect on an extraordinary year for The Vemoye Foundation, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the significant strides we have made in 2023. This year has been a testament to our collective commitment to fostering educational excellence and empowering communities across West Africa.

One of our most notable achievements has been the expansion of our network of partner organizations, now comprising numerous NGOs dedicated to increasing access to STEM education. Our hope is that over time, we will create a robust, sustainable ecosystem where quality STEM education can flourish.

In line with our mission to elevate educational standards, we successfully conducted a comprehensive virtual teacher training program, benefiting educators from all our partner organisations. We are confident that these empowered educators will provide a more enriching and effective learning experience for their students, furthering our goal of nurturing a generation of innovators and leaders.

Another highlight of the year was the one-day virtual leadership programme for the students on our Olotepesi Project. By investing in these students, we are cultivating a generation of leaders poised to make significant contributions to their communities and beyond.

In a remarkable recognition of our efforts, The Vemoye Foundation was honoured to receive a charitable donation from Schroders, selected from a pool of 70 contenders in their global employee charity competition. We are immensely grateful for this support and remain dedicated to advancing our initiatives, fostering positive change, and improving lives through our various programs and services.

As we look forward to 2024, we are excited to build upon this solid foundation. Our plans involve further strengthening our network of partner organizations, continuing to provide essential resources and training, and expanding our reach to support even more students. Together, we are making a tangible difference, and I am confident that the coming year will bring even greater achievements.

Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to The Vemoye Foundation. Together, we are driving progress and creating a brighter future for all.

What We Did In 2023

Built a Network of Organisations

In the past year, The Vemoye Foundation has made significant strides in expanding its network of partner organizations across West Africa, all of which are dedicated to increasing access to STEM education within grassroots communities. This growing network comprises of numerous NGOs that collectively support over 10,000 students, providing them with invaluable opportunities to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By establishing these strategic partnerships, we have been able to amplify our impact, ensuring that more children and young adults gain the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. Our collaborative efforts have also fostered a sense of community and shared purpose among these organizations, further strengthening our collective mission.

Looking ahead, this network is integral to Vemoye's vision for building education in Africa. Our plan involves helping each of these partner organizations reach their maximum potential, thus enabling them to extend their reach and support even more students. By providing resources, training, and strategic guidance, we aim to ensure that the quality of education these students receive is of the highest standard. This approach not only amplifies the individual impact of each NGO but also creates a robust, sustainable ecosystem where quality STEM education can flourish. Through these efforts, Vemoye is committed to nurturing a generation of innovators and leaders who will drive progress and development across the continent.

Virtual Teacher Training Programme

Over the course of two weeks, we successfully delivered a comprehensive virtual teacher training programme for our partner organisations. The primary objective was to equip educators with advanced teaching strategies, digital tools, and innovative methods to enhance the quality of education for their students. Each day of the programme was meticulously planned to cover essential topics such as interactive online teaching, student engagement, and differentiated instruction. Expert educators and industry professionals were brought in as guest speakers to share their insights and experiences, ensuring that participants gained valuable, real-world knowledge.

The response to the training programme was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers reported increased confidence in their ability to deliver effective lessons and appreciated the practical tips and resources provided. Collaborative workshops and breakout sessions allowed educators to share best practices and address common challenges, fostering a sense of community and mutual support. Postprogramme evaluations indicated a significant improvement in teachers' preparedness and enthusiasm, which we believe will translate into a more enriching and effective learning experience for their students. Overall, the virtual teacher training programme was a milestone in our ongoing efforts to elevate educational standards across our partner organizations.

Leadership Programme

The one-day virtual leadership programme for the students on our Olotepesi Project was created to inspire and empower young minds. Sessions included conflict resolution, debating, effective communication and community service. The virtual platform enabled students from even the most remote areas to participate, creating a unified and engaged community of future leaders.

The impact of the conference was overwhelmingly positive, as evidenced by the feedback from the participants. Students reported feeling more confident in their abilities and more motivated to achieve their personal and academic goals. The event not only equipped them with practical skills but also reinforced the importance of education and leadership in driving positive change within their communities.

Schroders Funding

The Vemoye Foundation was honoured as one of the 20 distinguished charities to receive a charitable donation from Schroders, selected from an impressive pool of 70 contenders in their global employee charity competition. This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact in our community and beyond. The generous contribution from Schroders not only provides critical financial support but also affirms the value of our mission and the diligent efforts of our team. We are immensely grateful for this opportunity and remain dedicated to advancing our initiatives, fostering positive change, and improving lives through our various programs and services.

Trustees’ Report - Strategic Plan 2024

SKillsMatch Platform

Timeline: January – December

SkillsMatch is a platform that will match the skills of professional diasporans to the needs of our incredible partner organisations in Nigeria. The platform will allow keen diasporans to remotely, yet effectively support the work going on in Nigeria through collaboration.

Documentary

Timeline: April- November

The Vemoye Foundation is producing a short documentary that will focus on the current landscape of Nigeria's STEM space. We will explore how Nigeria's education system is currently trying to equip students and highlight how the 3rd sector (NGOs and not-for-profits) plays a key role in passing on this vital form of education. We will also explore their struggles and show how Vemoye supports this important work.

The documentary will then be available on a more public space (likely YouTube).
