## **TRUSTEES REPORT**

The Trinity Church Manchester Trustees present their annual report with the necessary financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2020 and confirm that the financial statements comply with the current statutory requirements.

## **Charity Structure & Governance**

On 15 December 2019, the Trustees of Trinity Church Manchester (TCM) formally adopted the church’s constitution, appointed Caleb Conner as Chair of the Trustees, and agreed to employ Peter Evans as TCM’s pastor.

On 20 February 2020, TCM was officially registered as Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. On 28 May 2020, TCM officially constituted as a church membership and appointed Malcolm Clark and Caleb Conner as Elders to serve alongside Peter Evans.

TCM’s activities are typically organised by the Elders of the church. Peter Evans and Malcolm Clark are employed Elders, operating in a full-time capacity. The church’s activities are supported by employed staff and volunteers.

TCM is a congregational church led by at least 2 Elders. The Elders possess the overall spiritual leadership of TCM. Church members are those individuals who assent to the Statement of Faith and have committed themselves to serve Christ in united corporate fellowship with the other members of the church, and who have agreed to submit themselves to the authority and leadership of our Elders.

Under God, TCM’s members corporately share ultimate responsibility to ensure that the church is taught, led and disciplined in accordance with TCM’s Statement of Faith and Church Rules.

TCM requires at least 3 Trustees at all times. The Trustees are selected because of their character, competency, and willingness to serve. Trustees are expected to possess the biblical qualifications of a deacon and to contribute with a meaningful skillset.

The following held the office of Trustee in 2020:

Caleb Conner (Chairman) Jeffery Schofield Peter Evans

## **Trustees Responsibilities**

The Charities Act 2011 requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the CIO and of the surplus of the CIO for that period. In preparing those financial statements the Trustees are required to:

- Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently.

- Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

- Prepare financial statements on the going concern basis it is inappropriate to presume that the trust will continue in existence.

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the CIO. They are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the CIO and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **OVERVIEW OF CHURCH AND CHURCH ACTIVITIES**

## **CIO Objectives**

(1) the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the Statement of Faith exclusively by facilitating the charitable activities of the Fellowship; and

(2) such other charitable objects as shall, in the opinion of the charity Trustees further the work of the Fellowship.

## **Affiliation**

TCM is a member of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC). The FIEC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England and Wales (1168037) and in Scotland (SC047080). As such, we are independently governed in our church polity, but we agree to a set of core doctrinal beliefs. These are summarised on our church website and also on the FIEC website.

## **Vision**

TCM’s vision is this: _We want to become a gospel community for North Manchester that reaches, grows and partners for the glory of God._

## **Church Activities**

City Church Manchester sent a group of its church members to establish TCM in the summer of 2020. In March 2020, the UK government imposed COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, which prevented us from being able to meet in person for church activities. We had a lease on a school for meeting on Sundays, but this did not materialise because the letting agency went bankrupt and the school decided not to let out their premises. Despite these setbacks, we continued in our ambition to start TCM. We conducted nearly all of our church activities online from May - December 2020. The TCM staff team secured a lease on an office in December 2020.

TCM conducted a variety of activities to meaningfully engage the community of North Manchester. Throughout the year, we provided online access to our Sunday services, children’s activities, and our family Christmas Bake Along. In December 2020, we met on a few Sundays in the Phoenix Youth and Community Centre for informal church meetings to pray and hear testimonies. In partnership with the Heys School, we donated items to support their Christmas Hamper Project, which supported local families in need. We shared Christmas cards to homes in Prestwich to let the community know about our presence in their community.

We aim to make ourselves accessible to our surrounding community, which is why we meet in the Heys School. This school has excellent transport links (parking on site, nearby tram and bus stops). We have a wide variety of people participating in our church activities. Our Sunday services are open to anyone who wishes to attend. We want to be generous with our time, talents, and money. All of our church members are voluntarily serving in the church life in some capacity. We try to match the skills and abilities of our members to the needs of the church. We donate money every year to other like-minded charitable ministries.

Pastoral care and discipleship are important for us to support our church community, which is why we employ Peter Evans and Malcolm Clark as full-time elders. Their role is key in teaching, discipling, and caring for the members of our church.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF TRINITY CHURCH MANCHESTER**

We report on the accounts of the company for the year ended 31 December 2020.

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under Part 16 of the Companies Act 2006 and that an independent examination is needed.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report**

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:

(a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; and

(b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities (revised 2005) have not been met; or

- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
