Report of the Trustees for the year 2020 Report of the Trustees for the year 1 January to 31 December 2020

£0 accounts but plenty going on

We are currently running our work on in-kind donations through provisions and supplies of our supporters, that are transported directly to the people we vowed to support.

Hence our accounts have £0 receipts or payments.

We use shipping company Swiss Global Freight to transport these goods. We also make our own visits to speak with the people there to check ongoing needs and see how our provisions are supporting the community.

Photos and more details on amounts/values for 2020 are within our activities section.

Our purpose and vision

It is the vision of the Ignatius Foundation to see Makonde Primary School and the surrounding community of Gutu transformed. There are countless communities that need physical and economic transformation, and it is our aim to see most if not all of them transformed for the better.

The objective of the charity is for the benefit of the public:

preventing and relief of poverty through the provision of support, funds, goods or services of any kind in Gutu, Zimbabwe and such other parts of Zimbabwe, Africa and the whole world.

We do this by:

We believe that the key to fighting poverty is through education

Education for all is our vision. Through the provision of essential educational supplies and funding we are ensuring that Makonde Primary School in Gutu, Masvingo, Zimbabwe is a force for good in the community!

The details behind the vision

In June 2016 Ignatius Makonese lost his life, the effects of his passing were felt far beyond the immediate family as he and his wife Edna, had made it their life’s work to bring about physical and economical development to the village of Kwesere in Gutu.

After the passing of her father Patience Makonese Chijoko travelled to Gutu and was amazed at the number of people gathering at her family’s house requiring assistance. She decided that in order to carry on the legacy her father and mother had established, she vowed that she would support Makonde Primary School and bring about change hence making an impact in the community.

Since then, Patience has been able to supply the school with stationery, IT equipment, clothes, shoes and funding donated by friends and family.

The primary school

This is the School in Gutu, Zimbabwe that we are currently supporting.

2020’s activities and achievements

Our first consignment of donated reading and writing books, stationary, pens, pencils and clothes for Makonde Primary School arrived in May 2020. Given all the COVID-19 restrictions at the time we appreciate everyone’s efforts.

We sent 1 drum and 2 large boxes full of these provisions for the primary school.

We were also able to get to them Laptops and Christmas supplies and blankets

The value of all these items was met purely by in-kind donations coordinated by our volunteers.

Report of the Trustees for the year 2020 The value of the costs to get the goods to the areas we work in, covered by inkind donations, was £505 this year.

We made a visit during June 2020 to check on the effect of our provisions and speak to the people on the ground.

The Trustees who went out covered the full costs of their trips.

In December 2020 we enabled bricks and mortar to be purchased to enable classroom building for Foundation stages:

Financial Review

We are able to sustain our work at the present time with in-kind donations that are shipped or sent directly to the area we currently support.

All costs are met by a beneficiary, and again are in-kind so do not go through any of our accounts or financial statements.

Given the value of our total in-kind donations means we can submit Receipts and Payments Accounts, the in-kind totals are not required to be (nor are they) shown in the accounts below.

Therefore, our reserves are still £nil due to the unique way or donors support our work.

Assets

All work is done by volunteers using their own equipment, so the Charity holds no assets either.

We do not currently have a bank account hence the balance is £0.

Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees

Patience Makonese, Trustee

This TAR was made and agreed on the 9th November 2024, but the

information within it was compiled during 2020 and the annual return done on the 2 November 2021.
