during the year
The charity was established with the primary purpose of operating a Community
Managed Library. Our offer was always intended lo be wider than a traditional
library service, aimed at helping children and young people achieve and
succeed, supporting economic opportunities, facililaling better menlal and
physical health and encouraging independent and active lives for older
residents.
As al 315t March 2024. following delays due lo the pandemic and negotiations
with the freeholder, the charity and London Borough of Ealing were negotiating
lo finalise mallers in respect of the sub-lease for the premises and service level
agreement to cater for all relevant mallers regarding the operation of the library.
The Iruslees continued to worked with the Council (whereby the library opened
on a three day a week basis) with the volunteers, rola being h8ndled by the
Iruslees. The Iruslees and volunteers have carried out all library duties land
or9anised special events such as a book reading by a local author of her
Halloween inspired bookl save those in respect of the weekly transporting of
book stock and IT which still fall within the Council's remit.
The Iruslees have also encouraged applications by school pupils in respect of
the Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering requirement and students have
flourished in this role.
The re-eslablishmenl of the library after a number of years of closure has bee
welcomed and embraced by the community and is an integral part of that
community, being ulilised for community engagement sessions for various
projects including the Local Plan and other Council mallers.
