volunteers, have spent working with
the South Asian Breast Cancer Patients.
Without this valuable contribution of time,
energy and expertise we would
not have been able to achieve so much

We have 26 of registered volunteers who
all have a DBS Barring certificate. Sakoon
Through Cancer prides itself on the work
the volunteers do. The last year has been
an unprecedented year, volunteers have
supported Sakoon in the Community (SIK)
supporting vulnerable residents with
prescription collection, shopping and food
parcel donations.
We have delivered three volunteer training
sessions throughout the year via zoom to
keep all our volunteers engaged and
motivated focussing on wellbeing,

of £5282 in the year
Due to COVID it been challenging for
charities and the community. However as a
charity we are flexible and responsive. As
the pandemic hit we set up Sakoon in the
Community (SIK) to support vulnerable
residents with grocery and prescription
collections.
Due to unprecedented times we all had to
think differentially and embrace the new
world of social distancing and hands, face
and space. As Breast Cancer Charity
during Brest Cancer awareness month, we
did an Instagram take over, My Insta Story
were each day we would interview South
Asian Woman Cancer survivors focussing
on their journey and stories. Story telling
was powerful in encouraging dialogue at a
community level.
During the pandemic we partnered with
Slough CVS and piloted a be-friending
service. It was noted that South Asian
women felt extremely isolated trying to
combat their Cancer Diagnosis during lock
down and the taboos as a Community they
face. We submitted a bid to Berkshire
Community Foundation and was successful
in securing £2500 to maintain our back
office function, develop our new website
and we held 3 volunteer meetings and held
a beautiful afternoon tea at Burnham
Beeches Hotel in celebration of Volunteers
Week. All of our images are captured on
our Facebook and Instragram pages. We
have developed a new website with
information videos and a commercial page
for selling items our shop

a newsletter with a sign up database.
We engaged on a number of talks to raise
awareness with business and community.
The talks range from Woman ESOL
classes, Asian Woman Resource Centres
and wider community events. Following on
from October Breast Cancer awareness
