Trustees’ Annual Report for the period
From: 1 October 2020 To: 30 September 2021
Charity name: Butleigh Cricket Club
Charity registration number: 1188001
Organisation Structure: Charitable Incorporated Organisation
Address: The Court, Sub Road, Butleigh, Somerset. BA6 8SA
Charity Purposes:
The advancement of amateur sport by promoting the community participation in healthy recreation, for the benefit of the residents of Butleigh and the surrounding area, by:
-
(a) the provision of facilities for playing cricket.
-
(b) encouraging and developing where possible the cricketing skills and knowledge of senior and junior members;
Summary of Activities:
More normal ways of operation returned for the club with the lifting of most COVID restrictions enabling a full season of fixtures. 43 fixtures provided the opportunity for over 40 players to play senior cricket during the season, with weekly evening practice sessions attracting good attendance.
The junior section had over 50 children involved during the season. All Stars had up to 30 5-8s on a Friday evening and our U13 and U11 sides both had a full season of league fixtures.
Volunteers played a vital role through the year. Work on the ground and preparing wickets for every match is all carried out by volunteers totally hundreds of hours across the year. Coaching and organising teams takes many hours of work from volunteers and on match days we are supported by volunteer scorers and umpires.
Again, the impact of COVID meant we had to cancel the key fundraisers of the Beer festival and stewarding at the Glastonbury Festival (Pilton).
Delivery of Public Benefit:
The trustees ensured the club continues to deliver a public benefit by providing sporting facilities to the community which well over 100 people have benefitted from through participating, learning and watching. Most pleasing was introducing the game and developing the skills of 20 to 30 children in the youngest age
group with All Stars and running U11 and U13 teams introducing a further 20 plus children to competitive cricket.
Contributions by Volunteers:
All activities of the club are delivered by a large team of volunteers. Key areas where volunteers contribute are:
-
Groundwork and maintenance
-
Club administration and finances
-
Coaching and youth development
-
Team organisation and captaincy
-
Supporting games through umpiring and scoring
Financial Position:
The club remains in a stable financial position. Higher expenditure on repairs and maintenance was driven by the need to replace the square mower reducing reserves to £15,685 which provide contingency for replacing machinery and repairs to ground and pavilion.
