This last year has been full ol up's and down's but has ended up going in a very positive direction
that will see the charity in a very good place as thg next year pans out.
Our CharÈty has been working alongside the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (freliskel IRCHn,
having been asked by them, gome 4 plus years ago, lo provide accommodation for the proposed
Women and Children's Hospital that was going to be built on the Tr8liske campus. Before Covid
we had all our proposal drawings Tevamped to include a second floor with 10 rooms for RCHT.
We have produced this basic building on the area of land that FIGHT had originally offered us for a
figure of £1.2 million. In the September of 2020 a Senior finance officer of RCHT requested to
come and vislt our trust to discuss Ihe way forward for all the aocornrnodation ne8ds. We were
presented with drawin9s from their architect for a lavish 18 bedroomed unit that was to be built on
a different part of the Treliske campus al an initial cost of £4.8 million. They would offer us 6
bedrooms but would need a £1.8 million input from us. At this point they removed the offer of the
original land causing us a real problem as we had been asking for funds lor the unrt that we had
already designed. At a Trust meeting all trustees agreed that we would outwardly work with RCHT
but Gontinue to raise funds lor our charity as there was no material change to the end goal that
was set when our charity was constituted. During 2023 RCHT set up its own internal Charity to
fund their part of their proposed building. We were told that we would be part of the set up and
interviewing process for a Head of FundMising who would work to raise the £3 million lor their
part in the build. Surprisingly enough none of this happened which triggered a further Truste
Meeting where it was decided that if we didn't produce something soon the interest in our charity
would suffer and we would start getting people slopping raising funds.
In November 2023 a house, close to the hospital came up lor sale and trustees went and viewed
il. It had the potential to offer 415 spacious bedrooms together with onclosed gardens and
surtable parkirg all within a short walk of Treliske Hospital. It was decided to make an oflèr on the
property and this offer was excepted by the vendor. The chartty hgd funds to cover the purchase
together with some fund8 to start the oonversion required and the process of PLtrchase was
commenc.ed.
This pur¢h3se has boosted the chaflty no end and all sorts of doors are opening now that we
have something tangible to celebrate. My next Annual Report will detail exactly where we are in
terms of opening the Island Haven and how the charity is moving lO￿ard for the future.
