Legal purposes:
The band shall follow the constitutional requirements as set out in the Avonbank (Evesham) Brass Band Constitution. Note: The Constitution has been included in the documents attached to the annual submission.
Objectives and activities:
- The objectives of the band shall be to advance musical education among the public by: - a) Providing opportunities for playing of original brass band music and arrangements of other music both as recreational activity and in contests, as well as by playing at fetes, garden parties and other such similar functions when invited, in return for a fee negotiated with the organisers. The band will play at two charitable functions in each calendar year at no charge to the organisers. b) Providing to the extent possible, coaching in the playing of brass instruments. c) Providing where possible brass instruments for loan or hire where players or intending players would not be able to provide them. d) Operating, when possible, a secondary band, open to improver’s, players in early stages of development and players wishing to play less demanding music than the main band plays.
Financial performance:
An income of £8612 was generated in 2023 with the expenditure at £8589.35 Meaning there was a net gain of £22.65. Band subs have increased from £6 to £10 over the last three or four months which should generate an additional £1000 a year. One item of note, sundry income included almost £1000 provided to the main band from the training band.
Fundraising:
The band generate a majority of funds through concerts and bandstand park engagements, a fee for which is agreed in advance or in the case of concerts, the public attend by purchasing tickets. Collections are only ever taken during the Christmas Restive period where the band will perform in small groups outside shops or in town centres. This is done in a quiet and friendly manner.
Impact:
Playing to the general public in parks provides them with a free 2-hour performance which is funded by the local council. We get several hundred people attend, especially if the weather is good and always get lots of positive feedback during the break and at the end of the performance.
The funds are used to pay for the Musical Director (the only paid position), purchase new music, pay for utility bills and repairs to the bandroom, purchase and repair instruments, entering contests and expenses for guest players.
