ZIMBABWE NATIONAL ANGLICAN FELLOWSHIP UK

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2021

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2021. In this report, the trustees have adopted the Charity Commission template for the preparation of annual reports for small non-company charities (SORP FRS 102).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives

The purpose of the Charity is to advance the Christian faith for the public benefit in the UK. The strategy to achieve this objective is mainly, but not exclusively, through:

Summary of Main Activities

The Charity structure in 2021 remained unchanged with 12 branches and 5 guilds. For the year under review, the main activity of the charity was advancing the Christian faith through the holding of monthly church services at each branch. These were held virtually from the beginning of the year up to July 2021 when some branches started meeting in person, following the lifting of the lockdown nationwide. National Conferences for the Fellowship and all the Guilds, with the exception of the Mothers Union, were held virtually for the year. This against a backdrop of none of these having been planned or scheduled to take place physically. The virtual meetings were organised at all levels beginning at branch level, on to guild level, through to national level where all branches came together.

Public benefit

The trustees of Zimbabwe National Anglican Fellowship UK confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at all relevant times.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The Charity's normal ways of conducting its activities continued to be severely curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular during the first half of the year. The Charity was able to continue refining its virtual services offering on digital platforms through continued training. The main achievement was that the Charity was able to meet the needs of more people who were able to access the services in the comfort and relative safety of their homes. Whilst it was acknowledged at the onset of using the Digital Platforms that challenges were inevitable, particularly to membership who did not have the confidence in using such platforms, efforts were rapidly made through effective utilisation of the Digital Team. All ZINAFE Branches were availed with designated personnel within branches to help with technical support. This in turn ensured membership remained supported, participation significantly improved and maintained favourable levels. The Youth were able to embark on different activities including weekly Bible studies, discussing different topics including themes focussed on improving mental health wellbeing which was a big issue during the pandemic. Through these virtual meetings the Charity was able to reach more vulnerable people who would otherwise not have been able to come to church We have maintained the use of the digital platforms because of their success in meeting the needs of our people. Another benefit realised was that the taking out of the commute from the meetings made more young persons able to participate in various activities like talent shows, bible study, worship and games night.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2021

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The fellowship's main sources of income were member donations and subscriptions, in addition to funds carried over from the previous year. Fundraising activities contributed to the Reserved Funds for the Fellowship. The accounts show that the Charity’s financial position strengthened despite the fact that we had switched to the digital platforms. As the donations continued to be received throughout the lockdown whilst the expenses were minimised due to the curtailment of in-person activities, the Charity ended the year in an even healthier financial position.

Income

The inaugural annual income for the Charity stood at £37,197.

Expenditure

Total expenditure for the year was £22,816. This is reflective of the lockdown operating environment which limited activities that would have cost money to carry out.

Reserves

The total reserves for the year under review stood at £66,114 excluding reserved funds.

Reserves policy

The trustees have maintained a reserves policy set at 25% of total annual expenditure. This level will enable the Charity to continue functioning in the case of an unforeseen drop in income or increase in expenditure at any time. The reserves will provide a stop gap to allow the trustees to restructure the operations of the Charity to bring the spending in line with the income whilst minimising the disruptions to the work of the fellowship. General reserves are not restricted to or designated for a particular purpose. As of 31 December 2021, the balance of the general reserves stood at £66,114, excluding designated funds. The reserves from the second year of operation were boosted by an amount of £12, 924. Total annual expenditure from charitable activities, excluding activities associated with reserved funds, was £20,360.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2021

Going concern

For the year under review the Charity remains in a strong financial position and as trustees, we are of the opinion that the financial statements should continue to be prepared on the basis that the charity is a going concern for the next 12 months. We have taken into consideration the improvement in our financial position despite the shift from physical to digital services for the larger part of the year under review. The charity has adequate financial resources to enable it to manage short to medium-term operational and financial risks.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The Zimbabwe National Anglican Fellowship UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with voting members. It is registered with the Charity Commission under registration number 1187883. Our governing document is an ‘Association’ Model Constitution. Whilst the constitution is the supreme governing document, the fellowship also has a set of Rules and Regulations which aid, but do not override, the constitution in the conduct of the fellowship’s activities. Membership of the CIO is via annual subscription payable through the branches.

Recruitment and appointment of trustees

The Trustees are recruited from any eligible persons of age 16 years and over. Trustee vacancies arising may be filled by the decision of the members at the annual general meeting of the CIO. For any vacancies not filled at the annual general meeting, the members or the charity trustees may at any time decide to appoint a new charity trustee, whether in place of a charity trustee who has retired or been removed in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, or as an additional charity trustee. A person appointed trustee by the members of the CIO or by the charity trustees outside the annual general meeting shall retire at the conclusion of the next annual general meeting after the date of his or her appointment.

Organisational structure

The Zimbabwe National Anglican Fellowship UK is run on a day-to-day basis by a National Executive Council elected from amongst the membership of the CIO. As a Christian organisation, the pastoral care provision is led by ordained members of the clergy under the direction of the Priest-in-Charge. Members of the clergy in active service within the fellowship meet the Church of England Diocesan standards in terms of possession of the required licenses/permits to officiate and safeguarding. The charity is organised into 12 branches located in different geographical areas in England. Each branch pays annual affiliation fees. In line with the practice of the faith in Zimbabwe, the charity is also organised into active guilds which also pay annual affiliation fees.

For the year under review, twelve branches were affiliated as follows:
