2. STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT
Governance:
Suicide Prevention Bristol is a registered charity, registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 11 February 2020, registration number 1187866.
Registered office:
The registered office is Suit 601, 179 Whiteladies Road, Clifton, BS8 2AG.
Appointment of Trustees:
Trustees are recruited with a view to diversity, sound experience in the related field or professional expertise the relevant area.
Risk Policy:
It is the policy of the director to review risks on an annual basis. Each seeks to establish that all risks are documented and that steps to mitigate such risks are established and executed. As a result of this process, the trustees are satisfied that residual risks are minimal.
3. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The director refers to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the objectives and future activity planning.
Objectives:
The charity’s objectives are the following:

Use our skills in crisis intervention to offer supportive listening and prevent suicide.

Work alongside local services and signpost people to relevant support available.
Activities:
Suicide Prevention Bristol’s core activity is to prevent suicide in Bristol and surrounding areas. The charity do this by patrolling known locations by foot,
walking routes in Bristol and surrounding areas at night. The charity also do this nationally on our crisis phone line.
Our volunteers work 24 hours a day to ensure that all people encountered survive and are signposted to the right services.
This year we have launched our campaign ‘Not the Last Stop’ which is working alongside local authorities and taxi companies in Bristol and South Gloucestershire to recognise the signs of somebody on board a taxi that may be at risk of suicide, who to contact in an emergency and how to signpost them to the right services. We are working alongside the local councils to prepare training content for drivers.
Interest in our methods, approach and ethos continues to grow and we continue to engage with the public using our social media platforms, in person and on the phone line.
We have received a ‘Gold Star’ award for our volunteering activities in Bristol and we were picked as the ‘Hero of Bristol’ for our volunteer work.
4. FINANCIAL REVIEW
The charity is heavily reliant on the work of it many volunteers, the extraordinary effort of these individuals help keep expenditure to a minimum.
Reserves:
We do not have reserves as a charity. This will be considered as the charity begins to grow.
5. FUTURE PLANS
Our team will continue to work to ensure suicide is prevented, we believe it is 100% preventable with the right intervention.
We are continuously looking for new inventive ways to progress as a charity.
6. STATEMENT OF DIRECTORS RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director is responsible for preparing the Trustees’ report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law in the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company Law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and the incoming resources, including the income and expenditure of the charitable company, for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the directors are required to:
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently
observe the methods and principles of the Charities SORP

make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and just

state whether applicable UK Accountancy Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements.

Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to assume that the charity will continue in business.
The director(s) are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and any other irregularities.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Suicide Prevention Bristol (the charity) for the year ended 28 February 2021, which are set out on pages 5 to 6.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Godfrey Wilson Limited also provides bookkeeping services to the charity. I confirm that as a member of the ICAEW I am subject to the FRC’s Revised Ethical Standard 2016, which I have applied with respect to this engagement.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

(1) accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
(2) the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
