Trustees Annual Report

Our Vision

Revive Darul Arqam works with interna3onal scholars to sustain isolated impoverished and war-torn communi3es in order to alleviate poverty. Long term sustainability is a key focus in order to support vic3ms of war to begin rebuilding their lives. Revive donates life essen3al humanitarian aid with an increasing focus on providing opportuni3es for refugees to create their own income, in order to regain independence for long-term security. Distribu3on with revive ensures that aid reaches the most impoverished vic3ms of war, by working with networks of local Scholars to the regions in which aid is being distributed.

AcEviEes

Revive Darul Arqam is an interna3onal humanitarian aid relief charity specialising in delivering aid to isolated, war-torn communi3es by u3lising the guidance of local scholars. Opera3ng specifically in Syria, Yemen and more recently have established efforts in Bosnia, revive also occasionally responds to other interna3onal humanitarian aid disasters, when dras3cally needed. The charity has a number of key projects, as outlined in this document. By focusing efforts in key areas, revive seeks to make a long-term impact in the areas we operate.

OperaEonal Strategy

With a focus on keeping distribu3on costs to a minimum, revive operates from within the offices of parent charity Darul Arqam Educa3onal Trust (DA Trust), from which the humanitarian aid project was founded. Grants are made from DA Trust to Revive in order to subsidise opera3onal costs and protect the use of dona3on funds purely for their intended purpose, to reach the beneficiary. Distribu3on is overseen by interna3onal scholars and costs are minimised by distribu3ng aid through professional friendship with their registered NGO teams. Revive is commiZed long-term to growing in a way which is sustainable to protect dona3on funds long-term and therefore u3lises volunteers and community efforts when possible in order to drive fundraising efforts with minimal costs. Staff are employed to oversee and ensure professional management of the charity.

Achievements

Local Public Benefit

Ini3a3ves and events hosted by Revive and charity DA Trust, benefit communi3es near and far by providing inclusive services and events whose proceeds provide funds for interna3onal humanitarian aid efforts. Recent examples are the summer and Weekend Youth Ac3vi3es, Monthly Ladies Takeover Evenings and Summer Family Fun Day. All local ac3vi3es are funded through registra3on costs and 3cket sales, with proceeds contribu3on towards the focus appeal. Dona3on money is not used to fund local ac3vi3es. If funds are needed upfront for ac3vi3es these are provided via gi] aid.

InternaEonal Benefit

Syria

Revive has an ongoing presence distribu3ng aid in rural Afrin and Aleppo to isolated, impoverished civilians. In 2019-2020, Revive was able to establish mass distribu3on of bread bundles in 2 rural loca3ons, to isolated communi3es with weekly distribu3ons taking place amoun3ng to a Toal of 20,000 bread bundles per month. This is addi3onal to food package, water, heaters, firewood and blanket distribu3ons and also house repairs to provide families with living accomoda3on. Sponsorship of Syrian orphans is also an ongoing project. During the winter appeal 2019-2020, heaters, firewood, blankets and food parcels were distributed. Families received home renova3ons to alleviate them from severe cold, overcrowding and homelessness.

Yemen

Water distribu3on, food distribu3on and orphan sponsorship. Distribu3on in Yemen works closely with local authori3es to ensure aid only reaches those in absolute need.

Bosnia

Sponsorship of war vic3ms, with a strong focus on widows and children living in isolated, deprived areas. This project sponsors impoverished Bosnian war vic3ms for an en3re year, to enable beneficiaries to have peace of mind that their basic needs are met.

Ramadan - Ramadan since Revive began to operate under the charity DA Trust has been outlined. Ramadan 2020 was Revive’s first independent opera3on during Ramadan.

Ramadan 2019

During Ramadan 2019 revive distributed 30,000 i]ars (food to break the fast) to Syrian Refugee communi3es (prior to Revive opera3ng independently this was achieved through the parent charity).

Ramadan 2020

During Ramadan 2019 revive distributed 65,450 i]ars (food to break the fast) to Syrian refugee communi3es and addi3onally 3785 I]ars and 3785 Sahoor meals (food to start the fast) in Yemen were distributed, alongside addi3onal 100 food packages to sustain families beyond Ramadan.

Ramadan 2021

In Ramadan 2021, revive distributed 30,000 i]ars to Syrian Refugee communi3es including 500 orphaned Qur’an students and their respec3ve teachers. The appeal was capped to 30,000 so to focus fund raising from Ramadan 2021 on longer-term benefit for the refugee Syrian community, which allowed for the establishment of the second bread factory, doubling previous efforts to an addi3onal 10,000 bread bundles for orphaned communi3es in rural Afrin. Furthermore, 3,000 food baskets were delivered to orphaned communi3es in rural Afrin. Furthermore, 1626 food parcels were distributed to isolated starving Yemen, each parcel feeding a family for 6-8 weeks. 150 tankers of water distributed 482,000 litres to benefit approximately 74,000 beneficiaries in the region.

Future DirecEon

Revive con3nues to focus efforts on sustaining long-term needs and independence of broken war-torn communi3es. A con3nua3on of maintaining a balance between distribu3on of lifesaving aid to impoverished communi3es who have no other means of mee3ng their shortterm needs, with focus on genera3ng long-term sustainability. Revive is looking to establish Waqf projects to ensure long-terms genera3ons of funds to added security for those we seek to benefit.

Fundraising

Public dona3ons currently make up majority of Revive’s funds, with occasional grant’s made by Darul Arqam Trust.

Fund Reserves

Revive commits to distribute funds within 12 months of dona3on. Gi] Aid funds are used towards opera3onal aspects of the charity and where possible, revive funds Waqf projects for long-term security of refugees and to cover costs of other fundraising ac3vi3es. We seek to distribute aid steadily and consistently, so that refugee communi3es are not le] suddenly without aid dona3on support. A por3on of funds in the account during July 2021 are funds raised for bread factory, which is due to renew late this year and will be sent forward for this purpose. Orphan sponsorships are also allocated annually, so to reduce loss of funds due to bank fees and currency conversions.
