HISTORY

Driven by a deep desire to make a meaningful impact, Darren Greenaway founded an initiative to provide local families with all the necessary ingredients for a wholesome two-course Christmas dinner. What began as a heartfelt gesture has flourished over the years, with deliveries now extending across East and West Sussex, as well as Surrey and Kent. The Greenaway Foundation’s support, however, is not confined to the festive season. Throughout the year, we are dedicated to assisting families through partnerships with schools, offering vital support for uniforms, transport, school proms, educational trips, and residential holidays.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

The Greenaway Foundation is a non-profitable Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is incorporated and regulated solely by the Charity Commission. It was registered as a charity on 7 February 2020 and its governing document was last amended on 25 July 2024.

Organisational structure

The Foundation currently has six trustees who support its work. Darren Greenaway is the Chair. The Board of Trustees meets approximately bi-monthly and the meetings are attended by the Treasurer.

Risk management

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed, and to ensure that appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. These duties are met by a regular review of our risk assessment procedures, by constant monitoring and action taken where appropriate, and by Independent Examination of our annual report and accounts.

Statutory reporting

Like many small charities, the Foundation has struggled in the past with its back office administration, leading to late filings with the Charity Commission. We have recognised that this is an issue and identified voluntary resources, including a new treasurer, to tackle this issue.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Significant activities

The objective of the charity is the prevention or relief from poverty of people in need in West Sussex, Surrey and Kent for the public benefit, in particular but not exclusively by providing items and financial aid to families experiencing financial hardship.

In planning the activities of the charity, the trustees refer to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission with regard to public benefit. In particular the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives of the charity.

Helping The Community

Whilst we would like to help every child and family in the community, this is not practically possible.

Family Nominations

As the Foundation does not have the resources to qualify the financial needs of people, we rely on the advice given by third parties. Families can be nominated by schools, council bodies (like social services), other charities and on rare occasions by key workers. We provide:

Schools from Crawley, East Grinstead, Horley and immediate neighbouring and villages can nominate children for help. Funds must be used for a specific item(s), trips or holiday. We support:

Our Mission

Since its inception in 2011, The Greenaway Foundation has been dedicated to supporting financially challenged families in the southeast of England. We are proud to have provided help to over 11,000 families this year, bringing warmth and joy to those in need.

Our mission is to extend a helping hand to families who may not qualify for formal help. We collaborate closely with local schools, social services, and other charities to identify those who require assistance.

The Greenaway Foundation is sustained by the generosity of individual donors, local business sponsorships, and a variety of fundraising events. Additionally, Greenaway Residential Estate Agents contributes 10% of its profits to help cover our operational costs, ensuring that every donation received goes directly to benefiting the families we serve. We remain committed to making a tangible difference in our community and are deeply grateful for the support that enables us to do so.

We support children from financially challenged families up to the age seventeen through local schools in the Crawley, East Grinstead, Redhill, Reigate, Oxted and Horley areas by providing help with food, school uniforms, travel and assistance with school trips, to ease the stress and anxiety of children and to promote school as a positive place to be.

At The Greenway Foundation, we are dedicated to uplifting families in East & West Sussex, Surrey & Kent. We provide continuous support to families in need. Our year-round initiatives ensure that children have access to school supplies, uniforms, and other essentials

Every family deserves a joyful Christmas. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide families with all the ingredients to cook a wholesome family Christmas dinner, as well fulfilling children’s wishes during the festive season

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Since the inception of the charity, we have:

Volunteers

The Greenaway Foundation is immensely grateful to the numerous volunteers who contribute their time and expertise in various roles. This includes our dedicated trustees who oversee the charity's operations, as well as the approximately three hundred volunteers who, particularly during the Christmas period, assist in sourcing, wrapping, and delivering gifts and food parcels. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your invaluable support and tireless efforts. Without your commitment, the Foundation would be unable to fulfil its mission.

The Greenaway Foundation wishes to express its profound appreciation to Mims Davies MP for her unwavering dedication in advocating for our cause and supporting us in achieving our objectives within the community. We are equally grateful to our newly appointed second patron, Dinesh Ranganathan, for his commitment to assisting the charity in its endeavours. Additionally, we extend our thanks to Tiffany Jacobsen for taking on the role of ambassador and championing our mission.

AGM

The charity welcomes all its volunteers and supporters to its AGM, which will this year be held on 6[th] May 2026 at 6:30 pm at Greenaway Residential Estate Agents, Crawley. Do please join us and take the opportunity to hold the Trustees of the charity to account.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

We are delighted to report that we were able to generate a modest surplus of £11,140 in FY26 (FY25: £31,592).

The charity is hugely grateful to its continuing donors. We have made an application to HMRC to register for Gift Aid and this will immediately increase our donation revenue by 25%.

Expenditure is closely monitored. As already mentioned, the administrative support of Greenaway Residential Estate Agents means that 100% of our annual spending is devoted to supporting the children and families.

Reserves Policy

The objective of the charity’s reserve policy is to ensure that it has sufficient funds to meet its financial obligations and withstand unexpected events or fluctuations in income.

The Trustees have resolved that the reserve should be the cost budgeted for the delivery of the following year’s support programme. The budget for FY27 is £102,000.

The Trustees are continuously looking for ways to enhance their ability to transform the lives of children and families who are suffering hardship. The balance of the reserves is held to enable such enhancements.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

In view of the size of the charity, the trustees have resolved to report on a Receipts and Payments basis.

THE GREENAWAY FOUNDATION INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JANUARY 2026

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Greenaway Foundation (the Charity) for the year ended 31 January 2026, which are set out on pages six to eight.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As trustees of the charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charity SORP.

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (the ‘2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner’s report

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

(1) accounting records were not kept in respect of the company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

(3) the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

(4) the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended practice for accounting and reporting by charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Accounting convention

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2019) – (Charities SORP (FRS102)). The amounts in the financial statements have been rounded to the nearest £1.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

There were no trustees' remuneration or other benefits paid for the year ended 31 January 2026; nor for the year ended 31 January 2025.

Trustees' expenses

There were no trustees' expenses paid for the year ended 31 January 2026 nor for the year ended 31 January 2025.

3. RELATED PARTY DISCLOSURES

During the year, no money was donated by trustees (FY25: nil).

The charity is supported by Greenaway Residential Estate Agents (GREA). Each year, GREA submits a claim for its expenditure on behalf of the charity in the previous year, principally the administrative costs of the charity and a contribution to the salaries of the GREA executives who are trustees. Once approved by the Board of Trustees, an invoice is raised to the charity for payment. GREA immediately repays the same amount to the charity as a donation, meaning that total costs of running the charity are covered by the donation.

4. GOING CONCERN

There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.
