TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE PERIOD April 1[st] 2021 – March 31[st] 2022
Bryanston Group Riding for The Disabled exists to provide equestrian based therapy and activity to physically and mentally disabled adults in the Blandford Forum area of Dorset. It is a registered and affiliated member group of the National Riding for The Disabled Association (Charity Number 1074185) and operates according to and within the guidelines and rules set by that organisation.
The Groups’ activities continue to be based at the Bryanston School Equestrian Centre in Blandford Forum, by kind permission of the Headmaster and School Trustees. The School provide access to their indoor arena and equipment as well as the use of suitable ponies when required. Sessions are held weekly on Monday mornings.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic resulting in a total shutdown from Feb 2020, the group reconvened in May 2021 and resumed activities with a controlled restart assessing each rider and also our volunteers following the extended break. Intensive training sessions were held before riders returned for the benefit of both humans and horses.
Activities then continued through the full period with a total of 300 individual riding sessions for 14 riders encompassing varying levels of both physical and mental difficulty.
A small number of changes to the volunteer’s roster were recorded and all those involved completed suitable safeguarding DBS checks. A number also qualified as First Aid attendants, mandatory for our activities.
Financially the Group were fortunate to benefit from substantial legacies and donations resulting in a very positive situation at the close of the financial year (see accounts attached). Both income and expenditure returned to pre-pandemic levels.
