REVIEW
FTHEYEAR
Projects carried out in this period
Our initiatives have assisted the mosl disadvantaged children, young people, women.
and families - especially those from newly settled migrant communities - in
accessing a variety of services designed to improve health, wellbeing. and educational
outcomes. We have provided support to children. women, and families from Ukraine.
Roma. Kurdish, Libya, Afghanistan. Nigaria, Sudan, Hong Kong, Iian, Pakistan and
other nationalities.
Thanks to ongoing support from MPAC & Sutton Croft and Liverpool City Council, we
offer free holiday dubs-an initiative we￿e for five years-for children and young
people who qualify for free school meals. Most of our participants come from single-
parent families, predominanuy single mothers who are either unemployed or earn
below the minimum wage and receive income4elated benefits.
Our actmties cover essential lrfe skills like (XK)king and gardenirvJ. along with sports,
outings, perfom)ing arts, crafts, and personal development lempowenn8nt sessions.
We provide nutritious free meals and encourage children to adopt healthier eakn'ng
habits and active lrfestyles during the holidays. By engaging in enriching activities. they
are safe from social isolation. build friendships. enhance their confidence and self-
esteem, improve Iheir engagement at school. and become more involved in youth
events.
More children wth SEN needs are using the hollday scheme arKJ our offer reflects the
changlng diverse needs and challenging demands we face to ensure appropriate care
and support is provided. To meet this challenge. during the summer programme when
we have a larger intake of children, and slaff have accessed SEN training to provide 1-
1 and small group support.
We reintroduc%d our boostsr homework club. which we have run before. along with
family leaming actiNqties that equip parents with the skills and confidence to support
their children's educatron and development. Parents also participated in training
focused on the UNESCO Child Rights Charter and the Child Friendly City initiative.
where they examined issues like bullying and discrimination, and contributed to
actions, practices, or policies Ihat promote lislening to children's voices and respectiiig
their rights.
Additionally, parents and carers received support, attending meetings with SENCO'S
and head teachers to advocate for additional leaming support. navigate school choices
and appeals. and. in some cases. obtain guidance on homeschooling or altemative
education options.

The need to develop an advocacy support is evident as parentsl carers have
expressed feeling overwhelmed and intimidated by the school system and pro￿sS,
due to language barrier and not urKlerstanding their ruhts or receiving conflicting
information that left them confused, often being passed from one departmenl to
another. Having someone to speak on their behalf and rA>mrnunicate on behalf of both
the child and the parent intefests is a much-needed extension of our work that we are
committed to developing
We piloted a Football for Change proi8Ct. funded by Communty Foundation
Merseyside, for girls aged 7-14 with behawoural diffiLwlts'es and SEN. The project
used football to boost motivakn'on, confidence, and emotional resilience. Young
volunteers also senrfed as youth mentors and received NVQ level 1 in football
coaching.
In partnership *ith local organisations, we delivered short course in literacy,
numeracy, and IT digital indusion courses as part of our community impact
programmes to help women with limited qualifications leam everyday application in
budgeting and rnanaging priority bills. food shopping. calorie counting as well as stress
managemenl workshops, exercise, yoga, healthy cooking. and monthly meetings for
personalised guidance on issues such as health referrals, welfare benefits. housing,
and children's educalion needs.
Access to nutritious food and Ihe rising cost of living, and managing debt were major
concems. leading lo higher demand for advice and support. we referred more clients
to specialist agencies due to limited resources. This was supported by Feeding
Liverpool and CAB.

difficuft to understand due to language barrier and not understanding their rights. and
how to communicate with services. We have identified CPD training needs lo be able
