Bro Cymer Annual report 2021

6.1 Worship: 2021 was another a very strange year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our churches were closed from 24 January until Easter 2021. For the remainder of the year, Sunday services were held fortnightly, St. Illtud’s and St. Machreth’s alternating with St. Mary’s, with masks, limited numbers, social distancing and shorter services, with one or more services filmed and posted on Youtube and Facebook most Sundays for those who were unable to attend in person. Although attendance was low (and still is), this enabled us to continue our worship and witness.

6.2 Ecumenical: Cytûn committee meetings continued on line, and a number of on-line ecumenical services were held: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, World Prayer Day, witness in the square on Good Friday, Christian Aid service, open-air service at Cymer Abbey in July, and Nine Lessons and Carols.

6.3 Occasional Ofces: There were no weddings nor baptisms during 2021. There were however ten funerals (or memorial services) at St. Mary’s, one graveside funeral at Dolgellau Cemetery, one burial at Llanfachreth and one at Rhyd-y-main cemetery. Sadly, we have lost a number of faithful members, including Dewi Ellis, Johnny Parry, Mary Hilton, Mim Williams, Betty Doyle and Dorothy Clifton (and recently, Reg and Beryl Bright).

6.4Pastoral Care: I have attempted to keep in touch with members by phone, e-mail and post, and by visiting when possible, but I apologise that I was not able to do more. Members of the Pastoral Care Team also gave support.

6.5 Mission: An ecumenical team held an Alpha Course on line for adults. Although the team worked well together and we had a small number of committed attendees, we came to the opinion that in-person mission is more effective. It was possible to hold a few school assemblies, and in November we established a new lunchtime club (Clwb Cnoi Cil) at Ysgol Bro Idris main site for years 7 and 8 – thanks to Debbie Peck, Alison Woodbridge and the school head and staff for their help with this. I have also recently been co-opted as a school governor. Shân continued to publish digitally our bi-monthly magazine ‘Cymer!’, which is another important part of our mission and is much appreciated.

6.6 Buildings: Work has continued on planning repairs and improvements to our buildings, but this has unfortunately been a slow process due to Covid, brexit etc.. I hope to be able to move things forward by the Summer. The long-running saga of St. Mary’s clock was however finally solved, and it is now running perfectly (without the automatic restart unit!). The MA wardens and myself have met with members of the Diocesan Trust to discuss the future of the former Ysgol Machreth building, and the site is now being valued in order to negotiate its sale to Cyngor Gwynedd to provide social housing. The Probation Community Service team have continued to cut the grass a couple of times a year at St. Illtud’s and St. Mark’s as well as at St. Mary’s and St. Machreth’s, for which we are very grateful.

6.7 Finance: Shân Roberts and Anne Anslow have continued to manage our finances very capably in challenging circumstances. They have received training in the new on-line accounting system, which will hopefully make their work easier (once they get used to it!). St. Machreth’s held a number of coffee mornings, and St. Mary’s held a pre-Christmas Coffee morning at the Ship - many thanks to Anne and Iola and those who attended and helped. We paid our Bishop’s Ministry Fund contributions for 2021 in full with the aid of a limited subsidy from the RB and Diocese and by drawing a considerable amount from our reserves, but the Ministry Area Council has decided not to draw further money from reserves this year.

6.8 Thanks: I would like to record my thanks to the ministry area wardens David and Ben, churchwardens Iola (also verger), Dafydd, Andrew, Anne and Ben, treasurers Shân and

Anne, secretaries Maggi and Anne, representatives Jean and Pat, magazine editor Shân (again!) and pioneer youth worker Debbie; also to those who do readings and prayers, clean, open and close the churches, all who have contributed financially and in any other way, members of the prayer group, and the congregations for their continued faithfulness, patience and forbearing over this difficult period. Let us continue to pray for the Lord’s guidance and blessing in 2022 and beyond.

Adroddiad Blynyddol Bro Cymer 2021

6.1 Addoliad: Bu 2021 yn flwyddyn ryfedd iawn arall oherwydd y pandemig Covid-19. Bu ein heglwysi ar gau o 24 Ionawr hyd Basg 2021. Am weddill y flwyddyn, bob pythefnos y cynhaliwyd gwasanaethau, S. Illtud a S. Machreth am yn ail â S. Fair, gyda mygydau, niferoedd cyfyngedig, pellter cymdeithasol a gwasanaethau byrrach, ac un neu fwy o wasanaethau yn cael eu ffilmio a’u postio ar Youtube a Facebook y rhan fwyaf o Suliau ar gyfer y rhai oedd yn methu mynychu yn y cnawd. Er bod niferoedd yn isel (ac yn parhau felly), bu i hyn ein galluogi i barhau ein haddoliad a’n tystiolaeth.

6.2 Ecwmenaidd: Parhaodd cyfarfodydd pwyllgor Cytûn ar lein, a chynhaliwyd nifer o wasanaethau ecwmenaidd ar lein: yr Wythnos Weddi am Undeb Cristnogol, Dydd Gweddi’r Byd, tystio’n y sgwâr ddydd Gwener y Groglith, gwasanaeth Cymorth Cristnogol, gwasanaeth awyr-agored yn Abaty Cymer fis Gorffennaf, a Naw Llith a Charolau.

6.3 Gwasanaethau achlysurol: Ni chafwyd unrhyw briodasau na bedyddiadau yn ystod 2021. Fodd bynnag, cafwyd deg angladd (neu wasanaeth coffa) yn S. Fair, un angladd ar lan y bedd ym mynwent Dolgellau, un gladdedigaeth yn Llanfachreth ac un ym mynwent Rhyd-y-main. Gwaetha’r modd, rydyn ni wedi colli nifer o aelodau ffyddlon, yn cynnwys Dewi Ellis, Johnny Parry, Mary Hilton, Mim Williams, Betty Doyle a Dorothy Clifton (ac yn ddiweddar, Reg a Beryl Bright).

6.5Gofal Bugeiliol: Rydw i wedi ceisio cadw cysylltiad ag aelodau trwy’r ffôn, e-bost a phost, a thrwy ymweld pan oedd hynny’n bosibl, ond rwy’n ymddiheuro na allwn wneud mwy. Bu aelodau’r Tîm Gofal Bugeiliol yn rhoi cefnogaeth hefyd.

6.5 Cenhadaeth: Cynhaliwyd cwrs Alpha ar lein i oedolion gan dîm ecwmenaidd. Er i’r tîm gydweithio’n dda ac i gael nifer fach o bobl ymroddedig ei fynychu, daethom i’r casgliad bod cenhadaeth wyneb-yn-wyneb yn fwy effeithiol. Llwyddwyd i gynnal ychydig o wasanaethau ysgol, a chychwynnwyd clwb amser cinio newydd (Clwb Cnoi Cil) fis Tachwedd ym mhrif safle Ysgol Bro Idris ar gyfer blynyddoedd 7 ac 8 – diolch i Debbie Peck, Alison Woodbridge a phennaeth a staff yr ysgol am eu cymorth yn hyn o beth. Cefais fy nghyfethol yn ddiweddar fel llywodraethwr ysgol yn ogystal. Mae Shân wedi parhau i gyhoeddi’n ddigidol ein cylchgrawn deufisol ‘Cymer!’, sydd yn rhan arall bwysig o’n cenhadaeth ac a werthfawrogir yn fawr.

6.6 Adeiladau: Mae gwaith wedi parhau ar gynlluniau trwsio a gwella ein hadeiladau, ond bu hyn yn broses araf ysywaeth oherwydd Covid, brexit ac ati.. Rwy’n gobeithio medru symud pethau ymlaen erbyn yr haf. Cafodd saga hir cloc S. Fair ei datrys fodd bynnag, ac mae’n gweithio’n berffaith erbyn hyn (heb yr uned ailgychwyn awtomatig!). Mae wardeiniaid yr AW a minnau wedi cyfarfod ag aelodau Ymddiriedolaeth yr Esgobaeth i drafod dyfodol hen adeilad Ysgol Machreth, ac mae’r safle bellach yn cael ei brisio er mwyn negodi ei werthant i Gyngor Gwynedd i ddarparu tai cymdeithasol. Mae tîm Gwasanaeth Cymunedol y Gwasanaeth Prawf wedi parhau i dorri’r gwair ychydig weithiau’r flwyddyn yn S.Illtud a S. Marc yn ogystal â S. Fair a S. Machreth, ac rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn am hyn.

6.7 Cyllid: Mae Shân Roberts ac Anne Anslow wedi parhau i reoli ein cyllid yn abl iawn mewn amgylchiadau heriol. Maen nhw wedi derbyn hyfforddiant yn y drefn gyfrifon ar-lein

newydd fydd yn gwneud eu gwaith yn haws gobeithio (ar ôl iddyn nhw arfer â hi!). Cynhaliwyd nifer o foreau coffi gan S. Machreth a bore coffi cyn-Nadolig gan S. Fair yn y Llong – llawer o ddiolch i Anne a Iola a phawb a fu’n mynychu ac yn helpu. Talwyd ein cyfraniadau at Gronfa Weinidogaeth yr Esgob ar gyfer 2021 yn llawn gyda chymorth cymhorthdal cyfyngedig gan Gorff y Cynrychiolwyr a’r Esgobaeth a thrwy dynnu swm sylweddol o’n cronfeydd wrth gefn, ond mae Cyngor yr Ardal Weinidogaeth wedi penderfynu peidio â thynnu arian pellach o’n cronfeydd wrth gefn eleni.
