## **Review of activities and achievements between 01/04/2022 to 31/03/2023**

- **Weekly Cloud Club (MentorsHub Scheme):** Nurture Roots Foundation's weekly online cloud club session, successfully teaching programming and Azure cloud skills, takes place every Sunday for an hour, from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm. This program has gained popularity among diverse participants, focusing on equipping young people with essential digital skills for today's tech-driven world. Experienced instructors lead interactive lessons, hands-on projects, and group activities, fostering both technical and interpersonal skills. The sessions also create a sense of community, allowing participants to connect through shared technological interests. The success of the program extends beyond skill development to building confidence and social skills. Aligned with the Foundation's mission to empower through technology and education, plans are underway to expand this impactful initiative further.

- **Out-of-School Children (Street2School Scheme):** In collaboration with the FlexiSaf Foundation, a Nigerian-based charitable organization, we have proudly sponsored the education of 10 children who were previously out of school from October 2022. These children are now receiving mentorship and have been successfully enrolled in primary schools across Nigeria. This initiative not only provides them with formal education but also offers guidance and support to ensure their academic and personal development. By doing so, we are contributing to their future prospects and playing a vital role in addressing educational disparities in the region. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to empowering young minds and fostering positive change in communities through education.

- **Youth vocational training (Street2Skills Scheme):** Working in partnership with Engausa, a reputable skills acquisition centre in Nigeria, we have successfully sponsored the vocational training of 7 young individuals between December 2022 to January 2023. This initiative is a crucial part of our "Street to Skills" program, designed to transform lives by providing practical, hands-on training in various technical fields. The training

encompasses a range of skills, including CCTV installation, solar panel installation, computer operation, and mobile phone repairs.

Our goal is to equip these youths with the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable them to secure meaningful employment or start their own businesses. This approach not only fosters individual self-sufficiency but also contributes to the economic development of their communities. By investing in their education, we are opening doors to new opportunities and helping them transition from street life to skilled professionals, thereby making a lasting impact on their lives and the wider society.

- **Tutors Laptop Scheme:** We have launched an initiative under our Edufix scheme to bolster online teaching capabilities. As part of this effort, we are offering teachers laptops and headsets at subsidized rates, coupled with a convenient monthly repayment plan. This initiative is a strategic step towards empowering teachers by providing them with essential teaching and learning tools. Our goal is to enhance the educational experience through improved access to technology, thereby facilitating a more effective and engaging online teaching environment. The scheme started in March 2023 with 5 teachers.

- **Microsoft Global Hackathon 2022:** In a significant partnership, we joined forces with engineers from Microsoft to participate in the Microsoft 2022 annual hackathon, held in September 2022. This collaboration leveraged Microsoft's cutting-edge technologies to develop 'myEduHub', an innovative online monitoring platform. Designed to enhance our educational initiatives, myEduHub serves two critical functions: tracking student attendance and facilitating the pairing of mentors with mentees.

This platform represents a major step forward in our efforts to optimize educational outcomes. By accurately monitoring attendance, we can ensure consistent student engagement and identify areas where additional support may be needed. Additionally, the mentor-mentee matching feature of myEduHub brings a personalized approach to learning, enabling mentors to provide tailored guidance and support to each mentee. This collaboration not only showcases our commitment to integrating technology in education but also strengthens our partnership with a global tech leader like Microsoft.

## **Future Plans**

- **Out-of-School Children:** We aim to persistently advance our initiative focused on sponsoring out-of-school children. We have plans in place to extend our reach to additional locations and increase the number of children we sponsor. In addition to expansion, we are committed to enhancing our methodologies for monitoring and tracking the progress and attendance of the students. This will involve developing more efficient systems and processes to ensure that the children we sponsor are not only getting access to education but are also making meaningful progress in their learning journey. By doing so, we aim to provide a more impactful and comprehensive support system for these children, helping them to secure a better future through education.

- **Vocational Training:** In partnership with Engausa Tech Hub, our objective is to continue and expand the sponsorship of young individuals in acquiring vocational skills. Our focus extends beyond just providing training; we are committed to ensuring that these youths are thoroughly monitored and equipped with the necessary tools and support to become selfsufficient.

This initiative involves a comprehensive approach where we not only sponsor the youth for various vocational training programs but also provide mentorship and guidance. We aim to create a structured pathway that leads from skill acquisition to actual employment or entrepreneurial opportunities, enabling these individuals to apply their learned skills in practical, income-generating ways.

- **Other Schemes and more volunteers:** Our objective is not only to maintain but also to broaden the scope of our existing schemes, with a specific focus on recruiting additional volunteers to bolster our efforts. This expansion is vital to enhancing the reach and impact of our programs.

**Charity Number: 1187537 (UK Charity Commission)**

In order to effectively scale up our initiatives, we recognize the critical role that volunteers play in our operations. Therefore, we are dedicated to attracting more individuals who are passionate about contributing to our cause. By increasing our volunteer base, we can ensure a wider dissemination of our services and a more substantial community impact.

We plan to implement targeted recruitment campaigns and outreach programs to engage with potential volunteers from various backgrounds. Additionally, we aim to provide training and support to our volunteers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively assist in our initiatives.

Expanding our volunteer network will not only enhance the execution of our current schemes but also enable us to explore new avenues for community service. Our ultimate goal is to build a robust, dedicated team of volunteers that can help drive our mission forward and contribute to meaningful change in the communities we serve.

 **Digital Learning Center:** Our strategy encompasses the establishment and furnishing of a state-of-the-art digital learning center within a local community in Nigeria. This center will be a hub for comprehensive computer and vocational skills training. Our aim is to create an environment where the trained youth not only refine and advance their own skills but also become catalysts for empowering others in their community.

We envision this center as a springboard for digital literacy and vocational expertise, equipped with the latest technology and learning resources. Our plan includes a robust curriculum covering a wide range of digital skills - from basic computer literacy to advanced IT training, as well as various vocational skills that are in demand in the current job market.

Furthermore, we intend to foster a culture of continuous learning and mentorship. Trained individuals will be encouraged to share their knowledge and skills with their peers, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and skill development within the community.

To ensure the sustainability and relevance of the learning center, we will engage with local leaders, educational experts, and industry professionals. Their insights will guide us in

tailoring the programs to meet the specific needs of the community and to stay abreast of evolving market demands.

Our ultimate goal is to transform this center into a beacon of knowledge and skill-building in Nigeria, positively impacting the lives of the youth and contributing to the broader socio-economic development of the region.
