ANNUAL REPORT FOR SUBMISSION TO THE CHARITIES COMMISSION

Period: 1 January 2021 to 1 January 2022

Summary of main activities undertaken:

SarsCOV2 was devastating in India, during Spring 2021 especially the month of April. No family was untouched by bereavement and loss. The recovery has been slow, lasting into to the winter harvest season. The challenge was to reach the girls. Families needed to be able to access help and by keeping the aim of digital education in mind, the charity decided to extend its helping hand to boys as well. Plus, some short-term levelling out of equality was noticed. The virus attacked both boys and girls equally.

Main achievements:

15 Tablets were distributed to be used to help digital literacy.

The Tablets brought the community together, as others could ask to access information. We also saw children helping parents to understand treatments and accessing resources. Children often were carers for their parents, so had the tools to reach out while in isolation, to videospeak to a known adult online and get support.

School girls were distributed menstruation packs of re-usable pads.

Public benefit:

The general area benefitted, the adults and children, girls and boys. There appears to be some social levelling out of men and women, as covid has decimated a few families. How long this will last is to be seen.

A new collaboration was started with Computer Shiksha, as well as a small NGO. Both provide digital education for school children in Northern India. Computer Shiksha in schools, and the NGO to street dropout boys.

Future plans:

Continuing to provide digital education to children over a wider area, and with organisations who have a stable set up.

The charity found that other regions of India benefitted from support, so this will continue. A larger age range during covid was necessary and this is to be looked in the future.

India has changed its Charity donation laws so overseas charities are very restricted on sending funds to India. Converting of the bank account to a charitable account remains on hold. Using Globalgiving and established platforms to send funds directly to charities in India is currently a practical way to send resources.

All the trustees have agreed to carry on for the next year.

Finally, this report confirms that the trustees received no remuneration, expenses or other benefits from the charity.
