Structure, governance and management

Governing document

U.K. Nagara Shiva Temple was constituted as a CIO Foundation Model with the Charity Commission in January 2020 under charity number 1187503. It is governed by the CIO Foundation Constitution.

Organisational structure

The trustees are the members of the organisation and they are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits.

The trustees meet together as a body every quarter and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the temple prayer activities by the charity. To assist in the smooth running of the charity the trustees have seeked help from interested volunteers and appointed two of them permanently to help with finance/accounting and also around thirty volunteers for managing monthly prayer meetings. The volunteers give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits.

Appointment of trustees and Management

The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted on 22 January 2020.

Core objectives and activities

Our objectives are set to reflect our faith and community aims. Each year our trustees review our objectives and activities to ensure they continue to reflect our aims.

  1. To advance the faith of Saivism for the benefit of the Hindu seekers in the U.K.

  2. To establish a place of worship by building an iconic Shiva temple in the U.K. as laid out in the Hindu Agama Scriptures.

  3. Conduct frequent prayer meetings mostly as per the Hindu calendar festival days and serve free food to the visitors/devotees.

  4. Teaching the young generation about Hindu culture and Tamil language.

Our strategy is to make our prayer meetings accessible and welcoming to all Hindus and those who wish to know more about our faith. They can learn about our religion and mode of worship.

3

An important part of our strategy is community welfare and education. Our immediate goal is to find and build a place of worship in order to achieve all our goals and objectives.

Use of Volunteers

The trustees are grateful to the volunteers who helped during the year. Volunteers are an important resource in both our temple and community work. They are involved in most of our prayer meeting activities, land search, building and maintaining our web pages and social media platforms. We encourage all trustees and volunteers to be involved in all the activities and share their skills with others.

Worship and Prayer:

Our organisation provides a centre for the worship of Lord Shiva and other associated deities of Saivism. During the year under review, we offered a range of religious services: regular prayer meetings and education to adults and children.

● Prayer Meetings:

We have conducted 8 important festivals during this period. Monthly prayers to the Saiva deities Lord Nataraja, Goddess Sivagami, Ganesha and Murgan in a rented hall (same location) on festival days and offered the best service to the community with free food to all throughout the year. The prayer meeting invite is widely published on social media platforms, our temple website and public groups. We have people from various sects and beliefs joining the prayers and the community finds both physical and spiritual fulfillment.

● Religious Education:

● BBC Radio:

Our organisation had the opportunity to participate and share the purpose of our charity and achievements so far in the BBC Three Counties Radio faith programme. Kids also participated in the faith programme and sang Thevaram.

4

● Organisation Website:

Our volunteers spent a significant amount of time developing a brand new website for our organisation. This website provides regular updates on the prayer meetings, charity mission and articles/learning materials about Hinduism and Saivism.

Financial Review

Principal funding sources

The charity’s main source of income is through donations: at monthly prayer meetings, one-off donations and monthly contributors. Our organisation has received several donations during this

financial year which has accumulated to £38790 and this represents a significant increase from the earlier year ( £29909 ) despite rising cost of living in the U.K.

The total expenditure during this period was £3636 . The charity has no investments/properties/deposits during this period.
