INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS
Report to the trustees/members of RIVERS INTERNANTIONAL on the accounts for the year ended 31st December 2020 set out on pages 5 to 10.
RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act),
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act), and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the organisation and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
-
proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 130 of the Act); and
-
accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

RIVERS INTERNATIONAL
TRUSTEES REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2020
OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Rivers International obtained CIO charitable status in January 2020. The charity aims to restore dignity, relieve poverty
and revive spirituality. Rivers international aims to do this by relieving financial hardship and promote and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods and services.
In 2020 the charity supported a network feeding project in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This feeding project provides and delivers cooked meals to schools in Bloemfontein to school children who would not otherwise receive a meal. During the pandemic Rivers International supported food distribution into the township in Bloemfontein and supported our network contact in Cape Town.
Pastor Petrus Nare in South Africa sadly passed away during the year and his ministry throughout churches and communities in Bloemfontein will be missed.
A ministry contact was made in India where we have mentored and pastorally supported a Pastor in Mumbai and support a feeding project to children and families throughout the pandemic.
Locally in the UK, during the pandemic, the charity supplied essential food supplies locally, as well as to schools and to a place of refuge. In October, Rivers International acquired a premises in our local area which has been a hub of operation for our charitable activities. From the premises the charity has packaged food parcels and held support prayer meetings when restrictions allowed.
Over the Christmas period, the charity continued to support the work in India as well as locally provide essential provisions as well as gifts to a place of refuge.
TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES
The Charities Act 2011 require the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:
-
Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
Prepare financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the trust will continue in existence.
-
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the trust. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the trust and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
