REPORT TO TRUSTEES Year April 2021 to March 31, 2022
As required by Charity Commission I am pleased to present my report on the year's activities. And which have been dominated by the restrictions of Covid19 for a second year. However, by the fantastic efforts of a limited number of volunteers we have been able to continue to provide a good service to all referred to us or requesting help directly, while being very aware that there were many more in the community who could benefit.
Zoom and WhatsApp have again been of invaluable help both for day-to-day communication between officers and volunteers, contacts with trustees, and with other North Wales foodbanks.
Referrals from agencies dropped very considerably as offices were closed and contacts reduced. The receiving of requests by telephone emails and e-referrals 6 or 7 days a week was a very demanding role. We continued to work closely with our CAB’s and supported the fuel voucher scheme.
Our voucher numbers were affected very much during the year by the covid outbreak
Denbigh showed a drop from 1468 in year 2021-22 to 897 in the past year
Ruthin showed a similar drop from1696 to 867 over the same periods
(Ruthin figures do not include the large number of Christmas bags packed and distributed.)
An AGM was held on zoom on 15 February 2022.
Thanks to the generosity of our local supporters, in cash and in food items, directly and through the boxes in the local supermarkets we had a very adequate supply of food
throughout the period. Our treasurer was able to report a very substantial increase in our bank balance and was able to set-up online banking arrangements. The audited accounts are presented separately.
While the newer Ruthin premises continued to function well the anxieties about the state of Capel Mawr continued. It was necessary to rent additional storage space in Capel Lon Swan.
The potential limitation in our existing charitable status which restrict us in taking out contracts and employing staff if we wished continued as a worry and a new constitution to be submitted to the Charity Commission was agreed in principle. The wish to clarify the liabilities of trustees led to a request for a legal opinion from Mr Mullan Q.C. who very generously provided one free of charge soon after the end of the financial year.
In December I declared my wish to stand down as chairman/project manager after 7 years. A discussion paper on whether the two roles should be separated took place for clarity before nominations were requested. It was agreed that this should be in consultation with the new chair. Online voting arrangements were agreed. Two nominations were received from Lowri Smith and from Mark Owen, resulting in Mark being elected. He was also elected as an additional trustee. He took over at the end of the march meeting, conveniently at the end of the financial year.
In stepping down I expressed my very sincere thanks to all the officers and volunteers who had been so supportive of me over the years, together with my continuing support of our new chairman.
