– Chirk Pre school Playgroup Annual Report 2023 2024
Once again, as Chair, I feel very privileged to present our Annual Report.
It’s been a challenging year which began with a CIW inspection in the first week. Happily this was very successful with an overall judgement of Good with elements of excellent. Their minor recommendations have all been completed. This was followed the next term by a complaint issue and an anonymous vindictive complaint which resulted in another inspection. Once again the thorough, independent CIW inspection was very successful, with excellent and complimentary comments from both inspectors and parents. Some minor recommendations have been incorporated into our work. The trustees and staff used the opportunity to gain valuable experience. We will be expecting to welcome an Estyn Inspection for our Early Education provision in the next year.
Our move into our new building continues to be a very welcome success with purpose built facilities and resources. Whilst the new building has been brilliant it has also increased our expenditure alongside the continued implementation of the New Curriculum. So there is always a considerable financial challenge for the Playgroup.
The children have been involved in a wide range of activities throughout the year encouraging each of them to explore the world around them, examine their own skills and emotions and enjoy time with different adults and children. Many thanks are due to Ysgol Y Waun Governors who very kindly agreed to our fencing off an outside area which has resulted in our being able to offer a permanent safe natural space for children in our forest school. The children and families have also enjoyed special events or celebrations in Playgroup and trips out to Chester Zoo.
Last year we highlighted an increasing need for additional support for children and families This has increased this year, there have been significant issues for families with children with additional needs some often very complex. We do believe our early identification and intervention for children in need of additional support is one of our strengths and makes a major difference to the outcomes for those children and families. We would be eager to establish a specialist post to coordinate and develop our work in this area. This will require significant
funds and further training. All staff have completed a wide range of training during the year, including Safeguarding, First Aid, Forest School and Additional Learning Needs.
Key to our successful delivery of our excellent service is our close connections and relationships with other agencies. The regular contact with Wrexham Early Years Team, Early education team alongside Health Visitors and Children’s Services ensure confidence is built and opportunity created for developing our provision and effective support for families.
Chirk Playgroup’s excellent daily working relationship with both Rainbows and Ysgol Y Waun ensure the best possible seamless opportunities for families.
As always we have an opportunity in this report to acknowledge and give sincere thanks to the many people who have contributed so much to our success this year. Without a doubt our greatest strength is our very special team Abi, Clare, Rosemary and manager, Llinos, who have tirelessly given their very best to ensure every child at Playgroup has their best experience every day .Additional special thanks to Llinos who so ably and remarkably manages to manage and raise the funds.
Our thanks must go to all the parents, volunteers and trustees who so enthusiastically support us directly or indirectly and without whom we could not achieve our goals.
We look forward to re - organising our timetables to focus Early Education in the afternoons which can help build on this year’s successes in the coming year.
