## **– Chirk pre School Playgroup Annual Report 2019 2020** After an exciting and productive 2018 -19 year we were all expecting 2020 to be another very busy and successful year. It began very hopefully with our registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in January 2020. Our room at Ysgol Y Waun was well established with excellent facilities and a wide range of learning activities being delivered by our committed team of staff. A planned new building was making good progress, the future was looking bright. Then, in March the Covid 19 pandemic became the major influence over everybody’s lives – including the Playgroup. Following national guidance we had to close our daily provision. Despite this setback, thanks to Llinos, our Playgroup Leader’s dedication and commitment, some contact was maintained with many of our families, particularly those most vulnerable. She provided activities for families at home and maintained contact. Even ensuring that those children leaving us in the Summer still received their “graduation” record – this was no mean feat under the very challenging circumstances. The obvious impact on staff jobs was significant, but we were lucky enough to receive some funding from the local authority and negotiated with our very patient staff to safeguard their jobs by reducing salaries over a sustained period. Re opening in September brought it’s own additional pressures with ensuring we were compliant with the wide ranging and ever changing Covid guidance. That meant a policy, training and ensuring the safety of staff, children and families, changes to provision and routines and of course, throughout the constant liaising with parents and staff. Of course, our numbers were drastically reduced and the implications of that are significant, with staff still on reduced hours. The trustees truly appreciate their patience and commitment. We are confident we have done all we could to avoid redundancies so far. Without a doubt, the impact on our finances have been very significant and Llinos has spent many hours identifying potential sources of support for which we are extremely grateful and without which we would be in a very different position. Our numbers are increasing slowly and we look forward to being able to continue to provide the much needed and valued service. We expect to see playgroup life returning to the exciting, inspiring and special place it has always been. One of our priorities this year will be to see a successful move to our new purpose built building, funded by the Welsh Government and Local Authority, which, with the continued support of the school will provide a sound future for Chirk Playgroup We are currently in discussions with the local authority and hope that the plans will get planning permission ready for use by September. The Trustees of Chirk Playgroup would like to take this opportunity to thank the many individuals and organisations who have supported us in so many different ways this year. Without this support, the playgroup could not survive. As Chair of the playgroup, I would like to add a particular heartfelt thanks this year ,to our Playgroup Leader, Llinos Jones, for her daily enthusiasm, caring and creativity throughout these challenging times.
