Summary of the purposes Para 1.17 Objects of the charity
of the charity as set out Gloucestershire Spiritual Direction
in its governing Trust
document 1.To advance the education of the
public in the subject of ‘spiritual
direction’ (spiritual accompaniment) as
arises from the Christian tradition. To
teach, promote and facilitate this
ancient Christian practice for the
benefit of people of all denominations
and none, in Gloucestershire and the
surrounding areas. In particular to
facilitate a vocational training course
for those drawn to this ministry.
2.To advance the Christian faith by
promoting awareness and
understanding of the practice of
spiritual direction. Spiritual direction is
defined as a way of advancing
Christianity, in that it is a conversation
held between two people (or in a
group) in the understanding of the
presence of a third (the 'Holy Spirit')
which seeks to explore the questions
'Who is God for me?' and 'Where is God
in all this life?

Para 1.20 | During the year Jan 2021-Dec 2021 The CIO has now been ‘trading’ for 18 months. During the pandemic much activity was ‘on hold’ and the sabbatical year for the spiritual direction course was extended to 2 years in view of the difcult considerations to be made of how to run, what had been, an in person course. However, activities have continued. 1. The maintenance of communication to the members of the Ecumenical Community of Spiritual Directors via regular newsletters 2. Continuing development opportunities online with visiting speakers delivering talks and learning opportunities of interest to the members 3. Informal online, and more recently in person, opportunities for members of the community to get together socially have been arranged. 4. Online training events have been held during the year, to encourage and educate members 5. The trustee body met regularly to discuss policy issues and develop the work of the Trust 6. A ‘hybrid’ online and in person training course known as A Companion’s Way was developed with planned frst term start date of February 2022 |
