Section C Objectives and activities
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
-
1.To advance the education of the public in the subject of ‘spiritual direction’ (spiritual accompaniment) as arises from the Christian tradition.
-
To teach, promote and facilitate this ancient Christian practice for the benefit of people of all denominations and none, in Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas, in particular to facilitate a vocational training course for those drawn to this ministry.
-
To advance the Christian faith by promoting awareness and understanding of the practice of spiritual direction, which is defined as a way of advancing Christianity, in that it is a conversation held between two people (or in a group) in the understanding of the presence of a third (the 'Holy Spirit') which seeks to explore the questions 'who is God for me?' and 'where is God in all this life? The Gloucestershire spiritual direction trust will achieve its charitable purposes, in particularly but not exclusively by:
-
a. providing a course in training and formation for those seeking to provide this ministry
-
b. providing a trusted and confidential ‘access service’ in which those seeking spiritual direction may be offered names of potential spiritual directors
-
c. organising informal meetings and continuing professional development opportunities for those involved in the

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Although the CIO did not begin ‘trading’ until June 2021 and the training course was undergoing a sabbatical year during the pandemic, we are pleased to report that the Trust was able to support and oversee the following activities:
-
Regular communication with members (approx 112) of the Ecumenical Community through newsletters in January, June and September
-
Informal support and enrichment for learning of spiritual directors in online meetings in March, June and October with input from ‘visiting’ speakers
-
Informal support and enrichment for learning of supervisors of directors on 20[th] October 2021
-
Planning for a training and development morning on Saturday 27[th] November 2021 led by two external ‘visiting’ speakers
-
Team building for the Trustee body through a quiet day retreat is also underway for early in 2022
We warmly commend the energy, commitment and support of our Trustee team in regular attendance at meetings and in undertaking background work in small groups.
