Chalr's Introduction
Our big challenge - one thal Carbon Copy shares with many dlfferent organlsation8 In our
collabor81ive work - is how do we contribute lo tipping the scales towards sustainability in thè UK?
How do we not only lessen the negative trends {on carbon emis5ion$ and biodiversity Ioss, water
and air pollutlon, excessive consumption and waste) but reverse them? Carbon Copy has bean
working on a new narrative that will get us closer.
To reach thls point, we have to move beyond a committed minority to an engaged maJorily of the
population. While others have made vltal progress by comrnunl¢ating the science-led facts and
consequences of Climate change. and by campaignlng for a more positive policy environment,
collectively we have still fallen behind our Climate and nature targets. I would argue that one of thè
reasons for this is becaus8 we have not suffSeiently engaged the broader population., b6¢8use
communication has been more about rising temperatures and mlssed targets, and less about
meeting needs.
Transllionlng to low-carbon1Sving and regenerating our nature-dgpleted surroundings are a boon,
not a threat, to locgl economies and to everyone's wellbeing,. creating more jobs, ImprovSng our
physical and mental health, taking more people into a néw era of mobillly and life quality. At
Carbon Copy, we strive lo tell the narrative of how such a Iransltlon can Improve our daily livès and
address everyday ne8ds', to reframe collective action as an opportunlty we can all grab rlght now,
where w6 Ilve.
But we are runnin9 Out of lime. Nonelh61ess, there Is still reason for optlmism. D8SPlte some
politioal headwinds and the signlflcant rlsk of alienating people through poor Smplementatlon of
good policies, we already have most of the solutlons. There is ovemhelming evidence of huge
potentlal gain8 that could be enjoyed by the majorlty of thé population - by transillonlng lo
ircular, zer¢>carbon, ecosyslem-conservlng, economlc development,
The Iran5111on Is happenlng.. It's a matter of speed end scale to reach the tipplng polnl. The future Is
here, It's just not evenly distrlbuted. AS we can see from the climate actlon storles people share on
Carbon Copy, the thlngs that will be normal in the future already exist Sn places around the UK
today. Most of what will conslilute large-scale change, al least in the near term, is the repllcatlon of
what's working and the spread of these exSstlng nlches to become country wlde.
W8 have a window of opportunlty to communlcate a different narrative, about big-thlnking local
action for cllmate and nature, to a receptive and climate-concerned majority. We've worked
tirelessly this year lo develop more ¢ompelling stories and to be more inventive in how we reac
our intended audience. l am incredibly grateful for all the hard work and dédication of our core
team and Board of Trustees, as well 25 for the guldance from our advisory board. In the popular
words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committod citizens can
Change the world. Indeed, It's the only Ihing that ever ha5"

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Flnancial review
Despite th& tough economic 8nvlronment in the UK, Carbon Copy enjoyed another successful year
of operations wllh total income of £200.901 {2023- £160,231) derived prlmarily from grant Income.
Total expenditur8 for the year was £202,271 an inorease of £32.226 versus prior year. Thls
Increase was due in most part to investment in the Garbon Copy Podc881, with 40 new 8pisode$

and partner orgar)isations to ampllfy Carbon Copy's Impact whilst offsetting further operating c08t8.
