1. Organization and Management

Clun Valley Music is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Its work is managed on a day-to-day basis by the charity's Artistic Directors, Richard and Luba Tunnicliffe, and is overseen by the Board of Trustees. There are no salaried members and no employees; the Artistic Directors offer their services without remuneration. The work of the charity is occasionally supported by volunteers on an ad hoc basis.

The current Trustees were appointed by a resolution of the previous Board of Trustees, at a meeting on 11[th] October 2023, for a term of 3 years.

Trustees, including new trustees, are appointed by a resolution of the Board of Trustees and hold office for a period of three years. The Board is not currently looking for new trustees but applications to become a trustee from candidates who can offer skill, knowledge or experience of particular relevance to the charity and its work will always be considered.

2. Activities and Objectives

The purpose of the charity is to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals. The charity carries out this purpose within the area of the Clun Valley, Shropshire.

The charity seeks to benefit two main groups:

The General Public : our public performances offer opportunities to the general public to advance, improve, develop and maintain their education in, and appreciation of, the art and

science of music. Performances challenge and educate audiences in the art and science of music, offer valuable and enjoyable cultural and social experiences and exposure to chamber music.

Local schoolchildren : the process of taking part in workshops exposes pupils to a range of music and provides chances to advance, improve, develop and maintain their education in, and appreciation of the art and science of music. Pupils gain rewarding experiences and learn and develop new skills, both musical and non-musical:

3. Our Work in 2023/24

As mentioned in last year’s report, we did not have any evening concerts during the 2023/24 season, focusing instead on forward planning, both artistic and financial. We did, however, run our annual season of free lunchtime concerts at the Methodist Church during August.

There were four concerts: Colin Danskin and Luba Tunnicliffe (voice and violin/viola) on August 11[th] ; Pavlo Beznosiuk and Paula Chateauneuf (baroque violin and lute) on the 18[th] ; Ruth Watson and Richard Tunnicliffe (oboe and cello) on the 25[th] ; and finally John Kirkpatrick and Lisa Beznosiuk (voice/melodeon/concertina and flute) on September 1[st] . As Kirkpatrick is a much-loved local celebrity, this concert drew a capacity audience with standing room only; but all four concerts were well attended and the audiences were generous with donations as always.

4. Financial Situation

The charity's financial year runs from 1[st] October and the accounts covering the year 1[st] October 2023 to 30[th] September 2024 will be found on the Charity Commission website. It has no assets or investments.

In summary, the charity made an operating profit of £820, delivering a short series of free concerts during the 2024 summer season. Donations were significantly lower than in the previous years, in line with the more modest ambitions of the charity for 2023/24. The intention is to run larger concert seasons every second year and we will be concentrating on significant fund-raising for the 2025 summer season next year. We enter the 2024/25 financial year with a healthy cash reserve of £6,989.
