Trustee Report for the year ending 31 December 2024
Following the merger of the funds from the Flaxton Old School Trust into the Flaxton Community Hall charity, the trustee were able to consider with greater confidence how to improve or replace the existing Flaxton Village Hall.
Before any refurbishment or demolition & replacement of the village hall could be considered, the trustees had to commission an up to date asbestos report. The results sadly means all repairs will need a risk assessment and this rules out any cost effective refurbishment and puts a limited lifetime on the existing building due to the potential repair cost.
An open village meeting was arranged to inform the village of the asbestos report implications, stating that the hall is safe to use, but repairs and maintenance will become increasingly expensive and ultimately the trustees will have to close the hall. The feedback was very positive and the Building Planning Group was formed so the fundraising team will know the target we need to reach.
