TRUSTEES REPORT

The year 2021-2022 was certainly a challenging year with the effect of covid still with us. There was certainly A severe need from the geographical areas we support for basic food, shelter, education and needs from under privileged families. However, we successfully undertook this task and were able to fulfill as much as we could with the support of our generous donors.

We distributed food packs for almost 1300 households in the UK during the accounting year. The food packs were delivered in Harrow, Wembley and Leicester. The total value of the food packs was accounted for approximately £ 32500. Also, we managed to support some schools (providing food packs for the needy) in Harrow borough and Leicester.

In Harrow, we work with the Harrow council initiative (Help harrow) partnering with Sri Lankan Muslim Cultural Centre (SLMCC). On a weekly basis we distribute around 25 food packs. Another partner we actively work with is London’s Community Kitchen (LCK). LCK supports us on a continuous basis by providing food packs whenever we need to support the needy and the underprivileged.

We also, with our local partners SLMCC and harrow council, arranged ‘Warm hub’ where anyone could walk in to the SLMCC harrow and enjoy some hot food in a dedicated warm place in the premises.

Very high inflation and deteriorating economic situation in Sri Lanka has caused severe malnutrition issue among the under privileged community. Report from UNICEF highlighted that 5.4 million people including 2.3 million children were in need of humanitarian assistance in Sri Lanka which makes Sri Lanka now among the top 10 countries that has child malnourishment. NIDA actively played a major role this year to help the needy with many numerous projects such as Orphan support, food pack distribution, iftar projects, housing projects, rice distribution, supporting families with disabled people, teacher support, senior (retired) teacher support, Ramadan food packs etc. to the value of about £377000.

With soaring food and livestock prices around the world many people have been pushed below the poverty lines across the globe. As a small charity with around 100 volunteers across UK and Sri Lanka and with the grace of Allah almighty we have had a great opportunity this year to help the needy and the vulnerable across UK and Sri Lanka.
