8tructure, governance and management
Hallmark Cale Homes Foundation is an unincorporated charity wh￿h was estsblished on 9 Februaiy
2019 under a Trust Deed and was rogislered by the Charity Commission as a trust on 10 January
2020. Four trustees were appointed initially and four additional trust&8s were recruited in 2021-22 with
a further trustee in 2024. The board appointed Stephen Burke as chief executive in 2021.
The trustees have received training and infomiation in govemance and their legal and financial
responsibilities. Théy have agreed policies and procedur8s for the governance arbd management of
the foundation and they regularly assess and mktigate key risks. The trustees have also agreed a
¥tfategic plan and values for the foundalK)n and oversee its implementation and outcom￿. The
strategic plan was reviewed and updated in June 2024.

Hallmark Care Homes Foundation was founded by Hallmark Care Hom@s and ils sh8reholder board.
The foun(lalion aims to ensure that everyone can age well every step of thè way by investing in the
future of ¢are. 11 makes grants lo ¢haiilies. reseaFchers, innovators and partneiships lo promote and
support proje¢ts that meet this aTh. This includes supporting the Current at)d future care Workfor￿ and
family carers, improving the quality of care, particularly demerbtia care. and making quality care
8UStainable and accessible for all. Ageing well is a life course issue and increasingly our work is
focusing on engaging younger people to lake steps lo live healthier and happier as well as longer lives
and ensuring people from all communities can benefit. We aim lo work in partnership with other
organisalions to lever in addilional funding and c￿ale a bigger impact.
Achlevements and porformance
The first years of the Hallmark Care Homes Foundation were overshadowed by th$ pandemic and the
challenges that Covid-19 created for Ihe c8r8 sector. Since 2022, the foundation's work has
acceleral6d, both as a grant maker and as a project deliverer.
The foundation has conlintjed lo support the development of the Championing Soctal Care partnership
promoting the positives about social care through Care Hom8 Open W6@k, Care Sector's Got Talent.
the Care Sector Fundraising 8all and Christmas Lunch. All these events broke records in 2023-24.
involving more care homes and care workers and raising £426k for the Alzheimer's Society and Care
Workers Charity. The fosjndation also éireclly supports the Care WoTkeis ChaTills mental health
support service offering free wunselling and admce lo care workers with a three year grant ènding in
July 2024.
The foundation was able to plan and agree 8 number of new activities and grants for research, policy
and practice projects. These included work wtth schools and college5 to encourage young people lo
explore working in C￿e, culminating in the Second national eare careers Confèrence for school and
college students taking place on 19 November 2024,. creatK)n of an index to benchmark whether'safer
ageing. is improving in the four nations of the UK with Hourglass.. the planning, design and
construction of thè UK'S first inlergenerational 'play garden, al Hallmark's new Bath care home lo
promo16 interaction between young8r and older people,. funding the Open Univer811y for a research
project on relational ¢are, highlighting m￿e15 of good practice., supporting the Centre for Social
Just1￿'S policy research on improving support for family carers with a ground-breaking report- bJnding
for the ILC-UK'S pioneering development of the global healthy ageing and prevention index.
The work and pritsri116s of the foundation have been promoted through development of branding, a
website. social media and other aclivilies, including publication of Care 2030, a ViSK)n paper for
delivering beller care tor okler and disabled people, and various other reports. The foundation's
website also has an imp￿1 report for 2023-24 about the differenc8 our activili&s are making. We hav8
reached many more people and had increasing influence on ageing and care.

The financial statements are presented for the 12 month period lo 31 March 2024. Duiing the prior
Period the Charity's year end was changed from 31 De￿rnber lo 31 March and as such the
comparative figures are for the 15 month per￿d from 1 January 2022 10 31 March 2023.
The financial results for the perK)d are sel out on pages 5 to 11. The charity has recorded a deficit of
£1,96J in its third period of aclivily12023 deficit £1,098). Total income amounted lo £259,262 12023
£385,000) and total expenditure amounted lo £261,22212023 £386,098), resLElling in a net operaltonal

lolal ￿serveS position annually. At the end of the reporting period, there was a surplus of tunds of

Plans for future perlods
Following devebpment of the Iruslees, strategic vision, the foundalic>n is implementing ils k8y plans
ak)ngside raising awareness of ils work. These continue to focus on our strategic priorrties of
improving the quality of caré and ageing well acTOSS the life course. These new projects will include..
the publication of the largest research project seeking the views of older people, their families ar
carers about care homes they use with City, University of London., an inlergeneration21 educational
loolkil lo enable older and younger people lo act logelhei to improve he?Ilhy lrfestyles and age well
with the Open University and Centre for Family Learning., more activities in partnership with
Championing Social Care.. making low cost technology more accossible to improve older people's
quality of life with Clarion Futures., and the first healthy ageing index for thè UK lo highlight how lo
address inequaliltas so everyon& can ban&fil from increased longevity with ILC-UK. We are also
seeking partners lo make care more accessible and ¢uEturally appropriate for black and minority ethnic
