## **Report of the Treasurer for the period ended 31 July 2022** 

This period covers the thirteen months since the last annual accounts. I have adjusted the year end to fit the new concert season this year. 

There were no concerts in the previous period – ‘covid’. 

This year started with two concerts in the autumn,  free to past members. 

Many things had changed dramatically since the Society was last active but there were sufficient reserves and optimism to plan a programme. This optimism has been rewarded with a very successful season of performances. 

Financially we have also been successful but this is reliant on generous, personal sponsorship. This used to occur as an occasional boost to the activities but is now becoming part of the budgeting. 

One of the changes was that the bank started making charges for charities and the Society has taken steps to minimise this cost while moving with the times. Thanks are due to the members for supporting us in this. 

Another is that the Museum is open, bright and shiny but not cheap (like it used to be for the Society). 

As has always been the practise, the years accounts are presented before the last concert and so estimates are made that are shown as debtors and creditors. 

The Revenue Account turned a small surplus and the main points are: 

1. Membership is up on the pre-covid numbers which had fallen away over the last years partly as a result of the museum closure. 

2. Single ticket sales have been at the top end of expectation for many concerts. 

3. Sponsorship received. 

4. The cost of the artists and the hall are the big fixed costs, known when the committee set the budget, to be covered by the uncertain income.
