## **Trustees’ report for Annual General Meeting, 27.4.23** 

This year’s AGM takes place just as the 2022/23 season is drawing to a close – leaving plenty of time for the very popular tournaments, including our own superb event in June. 

Moving the AGM to this part of the year will allow us more time to prepare the annual accounts and have them externally examined/certified, before we submit our Annual Return to the Charity. 

It has been another excellent season in which we have once again, provided a safe and vibrant environment in which some 250 boys and girls are able to train together and play friendlies and (for the older children) competitive games. At our AGM we will be joined by our dedicated coaches and they will share the season’s highs and lows (that’s football!) with us. We will also have the opportunity to address the business elements of the AGM now, rather than as part of the Awards Night in the Summer. 

We have at last had a season that was not interrupted by Covid and it feels as if we have come back to some form of normality. You will see from our accounts (for the year to the end of June 2022) that in 2021/22 we spent more than we generated in income, and this reflects a conscious decision to keep the same level of provision for our teams without putting up subs. We are a community club and keeping things on an even keel is important to the families we serve. 

The accounts also underline the fact that our annual tournament is of vital importance to us as a club. We are planning another excellent event this year and hope that the stars align to bring us great weather and a footballing smorgasbord! Thank you to everyone who volunteers to make the event so successful and especially Neil Burman and Catherine Kelly who put so much into planning and coordinating things. We are always seeking sponsors for our tournament so please do contact Catherine if you have any ideas! 

I won’t name every person involved as this report would be too long, but we should thank our outgoing BBQ team led by Gavin and Paul who have served up many a bacon rolls over the years, to put it mildly; and to welcome the new team of Sam, Emma, Neil and Cath. In the tea tent, many thanks to Claire who is stepping down this year and welcome to the new team of Amy, Lou & Rachel. 

Last season and this, Ringmer Rovers has benefited from having access to the 3G pitch and other great facilities at The Caburn. As anticipated and hoped for, our affiliation with Ringmer AFC has strengthened and we see this in all sorts of ways, including the sense of a clear pathway for the Ringmer Rovers U16s to progress into the Ringmer AFC U18s and men’s football when they are ready. Wildcats club has been successful at Ringmer and in time we hope that we can continue to build girls’ football and develop a pathway into the Ringmer AFC ladies’ teams, too. We are pleased to have such a strong bond with Ringmer AFC and thank Hutch and all at AFC for their friendship, encouragement and support. 

I’d like to thank Catherine Kelly for continuing to go above and beyond expectation in the vital role of Club Secretary. She is phenomenal. Also Danny Mizon for the care and determination he shows in ensuring that welfare and safeguarding are the first priorities for our club, as they should be. Thank you too to Alex Truffet for doing an excellent job as our new Treasurer. Much of the work done by 



Catherine, Danny and Alex is unseen and yet the club could not function without it being done, and done well. 

Huge thanks and admiration go to all in our coaching team for their dedication, passion and commitment. They love working with the children and helping them to develop their skills; and the children think the world of them for doing so. As reflected in the welfare report, they are also very careful around safeguarding/welfare arrangements; rightly, we have to be so careful and rigorous in these areas and we rely on our coaches in particular, to show good practice at all times and this is what they are doing. 

Thanks also to all parents and guardians who pay the subs, get the children to training, help with transport to away games, support from the touchline and get behind RRJFC. 

Finally, thanks to my fellow Trustees, Dave Pilfold, Alan Foster and Richard Irving. The Trustees are also working to make sure the club is well run so that Ringmer Rovers stays strong for the current and future generations of players.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 30/06/2023.
