Ringmer Rovers Junior Football Club Annual Report 2022
I am pleased to be reporting on another highly successful year for Ringmer Rovers Junior Football Club. We continue to provide opportunities for the boys and girls in Ringmer and the surrounding area, to participate in football through weekly training and matches against other clubs (including competitive league and cup games for children who have reached the requisite age, and tournaments). We have around 250 children registered with us as players at any given time and continue to provide footballing opportunities for players from the age of 5 to 16.
Over the last 12 months we have cemented our informal relationship with Ringmer AFC who run teams for adults in the Ringmer area. Our excellent working arrangements with them have enabled our children to benefit from opportunities to train regularly on the 3G/floodlit pitch and the players and their families to enjoy the clubhouse and other facilities operated by AFC. Our teams have sometimes been able to play matches on the 3G pitch too and this has resulted in fewer postponements.
As ever, we have ensured that welfare matters (especially our safeguarding duties) are given the highest priority. Oue Welfare Officer is extremely thorough and all coaches and administrators have DBS clearance. Adults have First Aid qualifications where required.
Our financial position is very good and has been strengthened by yet another highly successful annual tournament in June 2021 (with the next tournament planned for June 2022). Our long-serving Treasurer, Stephen James, has stepped down this year with our sincere thanks for his invaluable support for our club, and we have welcomed Alex Truffet in his place.
We are using our financial strength to innovate and further develop our club. In the last year we have encouraged more girls to engage with football by establishing a ‘Wildcats’ club. As part of our annual tournament last year we ran an inaugural competition for Ringmer AFC Ladies’ team who were able to host other teams over our tournament weekend; a very successful event which we are again supporting this year. We are also actively working alongside the AFC women’s team to establish RRJFC girls’ teams.
Faced (in common with all children’s clubs) with a frequent shortage of referees, we have funded referee training for some of our older players
(generally U16s) who have qualified as referees and are now able to officiate in matches involving the younger players. This has helped to ease the referee shortage but just as important, it has underpinned the principle of respecting the role of match officials, which we have always supported at RRJFC.
In May 2022 we will be celebrating the 40[th] anniversary of the founding of RRJFC. The club has gone from strength to strength over the years and is as popular and successful as it has ever been. The move to charitable status will ensure that we keep a focus on good governance and this will help us to sustain our success in future years.
I would like to end this report by thanking my fellow Trustees; our Treasures, Welfare Officer and Secretary; all Committee members; all our dedicated and inspiring Coaches; all our supportive parents and of course, all our enthusiastic players who make it all worthwhile and rewarding for every adult involved! Thank you all for all you do, and I look forward to another successful year for RRJFC!
