|Policy on social investment
including program related
investment|Para 1.38|Tennis Shropshire does not currently have
a policy on social investment as such,
however many of its core activities will
represent a direct social investment as
reported later in this document.|

remainder of the Trustees and others supporting TS give their time on an entirely voluntary basis. In addition, virtually all member venues are run by volunteers. Conservatively, around 150 volunteers across the county support the charity in the delivery of its aims. In conjunction with National Volunteers week TS recognise the work of its volunteers through personal thank you calls to them. Additionally, TS support the LTA’s National Tennis awards which recognises volunteer contributions who are nominated by their peers under the scheme. Other

## **Achievements and Performance**

|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|Tennis Shropshire has continued to deliver
its objectives throughout the year despite
the disruption caused by Covid-19. The
main successes of 2020/21 are described
further below.
**TS Tennis Cadets & Tennis Futures**
**program:**
This programme was relaunched in 2021
following its suspension due to Covid-19 in
2020. The program is fully funded by TS
and is aimed at 11-to-14-year-olds (Tennis
Cadets) and 15-to-16 year olds (Tennis
Futures) and requires participants to attend
4 workshops per year where they learn a
range of skills which enable them to
support the aims of TS. They are also
required to volunteer at TS community
events. Participants learn many useful life
skills through the programme which will be
of relevance to their future, whether or not
they choose to pursue a career in tennis.
**TS Coach Mentoring Scheme:**
This scheme is fully funded by Tennis
Shropshire and is aimed at the
development of our own coaches in the
county. This is very important since tennis
is dependent on having a high-quality
workforce to deliver tennis across the
community. The scheme is available to all
coaches in Shropshire and in 2021 8
coaches benefitted from this initiative.
These coaches are now applying their|

learning from the programme in support of various TS initiatives. **LTA Youth:** TS fully embraced this LTA initiative by delivering tennis in 42 primary schools with3014 children given the opportunity to play. Consequently 17 primary schools have signed up for the LTA Youth Tennis Programmes. **Disability Tennis:** These programmes were hit hard by Covid19 in 2020 however TS has been able to restart these in 2021. The Wheelchair group have continued throughout the year with a small increase in numbers. TS have also hosted 2 Wheelchair tennis tournaments in the year, one of which was the National Wheelchair tournament. These competitions attracted 79 entries across both tournaments. TS continues to deliver a regular tennis programme at Derwen College, which provides education for students with special educational needs and disabilities. The tennis sessions that TS run for other LD groups have also restarted. TS is committed to increasing its disability tennis programmes across the County through growing participation in existing groups and also be opening tennis up to new groups and at new venues. The growth of disability tennis is a core element of TS’s strategy for tennis in the county. **Competitions:** TS held 2 major county tournaments in 2021, with the aim of encouraging children and adults to participate in a fun, friendly and safe environment. The first saw the return of the TS County Championships. Held over a week it attracted 148 players from across the county, including both Adults and Juniors. The competition is described as a festival of tennis The other main competition was the Battle of Shropshire. This is a fun competition aimed at players of all ages and abilities that saw 90 players compete over a 2-week period from all over the county. The age range was from 8 year olds to players in their 70’s. This will now be held annually, given its popularity.

**Ensuring Tennis is played in a safe environment:** TS continues to work with all our member tennis venues to ensure that they have a named Welfare Officer who is DBS checked and trained. TS has also worked to ensure that all tennis coaches involved in delivering our own programmes have the necessary LTA Coach Accreditation which includes a requirement to meet Safeguarding standards. **Tennis Shropshire Community Tennis Dome:** After 5 years, the funding was secured that will now see the 2-court facility built in the first half of 2022. This will improve access to indoor tennis for the community that will include disability groups and schools and allow the community to pay & play tennis without having to be a member. **Parks Tennis:** TS continues to support parks tennis with its affordable tennis program at Monkmoor Recreation Ground located in a deprived area of Shrewsbury. This has resulted in between 25 to 30 children having the opportunity to play tennis, something which would not have been possible without the programme. In addition to this Wrekin and Telford Community Tennis Club play regularly at the Bowring Park in Telford, where the courts are open to the public.

Additional income was also
received from Coaching, Events and
Competitions which all showed an increase
due to growth in activity associated with the
relaxation of Covid related restrictions.
In this period no income was received from
donations and sponsorship however this
position is expected to change in the
coming year with the easing of Covid
restrictions.
TS is in a healthy position when reserves
are taken into consideration however the
charity’s financial position will continue to
be managed carefully to ensure its funds
are used in direct support of its objectives.|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**Reserves Policy:**
Tennis Shropshire has a formal Reserves
Policy. The General Reserve target range
continues to be calculated based on
anticipated expenditure over a period of 4-8
months, using data from previous average
spending. 2020/2021 figures are not
reliable due to Covid-19 and so 2019
figures continue to be used with an
allowance for inflation.
**2.The Loan Reserve**which is held
specifically to provide facilities development
assistance to member tennis clubs and
venues in the form of a short term (up to 5
years) interest free loan to a maximum of
£10,000.|

|||The Loan Reserve is a maximum of
£30,000. This provides TS with the ability to
grant two or three loans at any given time.
The organisation has £9,300 outstanding in
loans granted in previous years. No
difficulties are anticipated in the repayment
of these loans.
The Trustees will continue to monitor the
level of reserves held throughout the year
and review both the policy and the level of
reserves annually.|
|---|---|---|
|Amount of reserves held|Para 1.22|Total funds held by the organisation at the
end of the accounting period amounted to
£93,840. With commencement of the
building of the Tennis Shropshire
Community Tennis Centre, £45,000 has
been set aside to support this.|
