respond to the weekly planning lists
circulated by The Gardens Trust, which were
scanned and applicalions likely to have an
adverse impact on historic designed
landscapes in the Northumbria region were
assessed and responded to via The
Gardens Trust, the statutory consultee for
Registered Parks and Gardens. as
appropriate.

The AGM w&8 held at Alington House,
Durham; the planned visits for the year were
researched and deltvered and the Annual
Lecture at the LIL & Phil. in Newcastle ail
went ahead and were generajly well
attended. These are the PTincipal benefits to
the membership and attending non
members.
The trustees continued to run the
administration of The Northumbria Gardens
Trust and to plan for a programme of frjture
events.
The trustees continued to support The
Gardens Trust as the sL*utory consultee for
all planning applications affecting Registered
Parks and Gardens in Northumbria reglon.,

Financial Review
Review of the chaiity's
financlal position at the end of
the period

The funds in the Northumbria Gardens TTUSt
Community Account increased during the
period. The two main items of expendi￿re
were the Annuaj subscription and insurance
payments to The GaTdens Trust and the cost
of Roorn Hire for the annual lecture. The
bank now charges for all transactions on the
accounL Membership subscriptions were
slighdy down, as were event costs.

followed up thanks to the diligence of the

Account maintains a modest balance which
serves as a reserve against forihcoming
expenditure (such as events costs and
future Joumal production and circulalion

Wrth no expendlture on a Journal in this
period the increase in funds held during the
period was modest There may be a future
requirement for a review of the mernbership
subscriptions (which we have thays tried to
keep as low as possiNe) andlor a dr￿e for
add￿onal metnbers. A review of the
calcLSlation ol the annual headage payment
for subscriptr'ons to The G￿den$ Trust was
made and the appropriate insurance cover
was undertaken. The cost of producing and
distributing the occasional Journalwill also
require review, The bank's decision to
charge for di transactions on the account
has resLJlted in an additional draw on funds
but it conttnues to be feltthat attempting to
change banks would involve a lot of
additiond administration whlch we do not
have the capacty to manage and could
