To advance the education of the public in the subject of the history of Royal Navy Chaplaincy; including by research, the creation of an archive if relevant material, and the dissemination and publication of that material and knowledge.

Notwithstanding the continued restrictions imposed in response to Covid, the charity has had a busy year. 

1.  The easing of Covid restrictions saw a welcome return of the ability to undertake face-to-face interviews, including photography, with chaplains who are veterans of the Falklands War. 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

2.  The partnership with the Naval Chaplaincy Service History Project has been taken to the next logical stage; and that project is now formally incorporated into the charity’s work.  We were delighted to welcome the two prime movers in that project; Dr Linda Parker and the Revd Eddie Wills RN; onto the Board of trustees. 

3.  The charity ran a successful project, funded by a generous grant form the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, to address mental health and resilience needs in the veterans community.  “Combat skills v Covid Spills” took existing and new material gathered from the charity's research and disseminated it in ‘bitesize’ chunks, through a dedicated Facebook page. 

4.  Progress is being made gathering material for a project to publicise naval chaplains who were given gallantry awards during WWII; and it is hoped to bring this project to completion during 2022.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

1.  Two major interviews were conducted; one of which is already fully transcribed. 

2.  The Naval Chaplaincy Service History Project; now part of the charity’s work, has been put on a sustainable footing; with a realistic programme of material gathering for the next three years. 

3.  The engagement metrics for “Combat skills v Covid Spills” included: • 62,740 total impressions (number of times the posts were seen). 

• 53,279 total reach (individual users who saw at least one post). •   1,234 engaged users (responded in some way to a post/posts). 

4.  Some material has been collected for the gallantry awards during WWII project; including what is believed to be a complete list of the chaplains concerned, and online research in the archives of the Imperial War Museum and the National Archives, Kew has identified material which may fill gaps in the current record.  Research visits to the IWM and Kew will be undertaken early in 2022. 

5.  The charity was invited to mount the “proof of concept” exhibition at the Armed Forces Christian Network Remembrance Service, held at the Joint Service Staff College, Shrivenham: this allowed the charity to begin building a public profile in the Royal Navy and Armed Forces as a whole. Covid restrictions prevented routing mounting of the exhibition elsewhere. 

6.  The charity has been allocated space at the Naval Chaplaincy Service archive storage facility; Whale Island.
