CHAIRMAN’S REPORT for A.G.M. 10[th] January 2026
Dockroyd Graveyard has recently been nominated for the status of “Nondesignated Heritage Asset” as part of the draft Keighley Neighbourhood Plan which is awaiting formal approval. This is quite an achievement as seven years ago the site was hardly recognisable as a graveyard. We are grateful to all the volunteers, both regular and occasional, who have joined in during that time and made this possible.
Our regular work within the graveyard has revolved around the maintenance of the grassed areas and ensuring the headstones remain safe and secure. There is always a job for anyone wishing to help out. The Trustees continue to ensure the long term continuation of Dockroyd Graveyard as a place to be enjoyed by the local community.
We wish to thank the following sponsors who have contributed to our cause this year including Keighley Lions, Rotary in Keighley and Worth Valley Community Grant, The West Riding Masonic Community Fund and many private donations.
In June three Trustees attended the AGM of the National Federation of Cemetery Friends and found great mutual benefit in networking with other graveyard restoration groups. In September we offered guided tours to those taking part in the Keighley Walking Festival.
Sales of our two books “Dockroyd Live” and “Dockroyd History Makers” have continued to add revenue as well as fulfilling our educational mandate of sharing information with as many people as possible. This year we have added two new titles “Headstone Symbols Explained” and “Top Score Stonemasons” which have enabled us to reach a wider audience.
The number of people searching our website and following our social media platform, Facebook, continues to rise and we receive regular queries and new information from family historians researching their ancestors interred here. We look forward to being able to welcome many more visitors and families.
