CHAIRMAN’S REPORT for A.G.M. January 2025
The highlight of our fifth year has been to receive a nomination for the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. It is an honour to share this accolade with all the volunteers, sponsors and friends who have supported us during the last five years.
Over the last year we have made several improvements to the graveyard. In addition to replacing four diseased Ash trees we have revamped the entrance area with the addition of new plants giving a colourful all year round appeal to visitors. We wish to thank our sponsors for making this possible.
Our regular work within the graveyard has revolved around the maintenance of the grassed areas. We are grateful to all the volunteers, both regular and occasional, who have joined in.
The number of people searching our website and following our social media platform, Facebook, continues to rise and we receive regular queries and new information from family historians researching their ancestors interred here. We continue to welcome visitors and families from all over the country as well as overseas.
We held our Annual Open Day in June, in conjunction with the National Cemeteries week and also took part in the Keighley Walking Festival in September when we were able to offer guided tours to the many interested visitors.
Sales of our two books “Dockroyd Live” and “Dockroyd History Makers” have continued to add revenue as well as fulfilling our educational mandate of sharing information with as many people as possible. The addition of ebooks to our website will enable our research to be more easily available worldwide.
As we start a new year we welcome Liz Walton as a new Trustee and thank all those who have kindly sponsored us as well as those who have given generous private donations. We look forward to being able to welcome many more visitors and families.
