CHAIRMANS REPORT FOR A.G.M. January 2021
The start to our spring work was brutally halted by the Coronavirus Lockdown in March, with restrictions of varying degrees limiting our work throughout the rest of the year.
However our mood was lifted with the unexpected arrival of generous donations, firstly from the Sharp family followed by the Sunderland family. This gave us the confidence to carry on with our planned work as soon as we could. Further successes in receiving Grants from both Keighley Town Council and then Bradford Met Council boosted our finances significantly.
We were able to complete the TPO requirement of felling the trees that were damaging gravestones and also replant with more desirable species in less obtrusive places. More work on the path and entrance has given that area a much improved look, especially when the newly planted bulbs and plants flower in the Spring.
The impending arrival of a secure store will enable both ours and volunteer’s tools and belongings to be kept safe and tidy. The erection of the information display board has provided a focus for visitors to the graveyard and fulfils our wish to provide education to the community.
We have continued to make progress with repairs to damaged and fallen headstones, however a number still require attention and are the most urgent project for the future.
Our work continues to be well received in the locality with several articles in Keighley News and a great following on Facebook where our number of followers continues to increase. We had an official visit from the Mayor of Keighley and also welcomed regular visitors and contacts from all over the country and overseas. Our participation in the Halloween Trail proved a great success.
So after a frustrating start we finish the year in a strong position – a healthy bank balance and completion of most of our intended projects.
We look forward to a new season and being able to receive many more visitors and families.
