Objectives and Activities
The St Davids Penknife Club operates within the St Davids Peninsula in Pembrokeshire supporting charities and good causes within that area. We raise funds by organising local events including a New Year’s Day swim at Whitesands, local walks, film shows and various other fundraising schemes. We also receive ad hoc donations from supporters and collection boxes in local commercial premises.
Our objective is:
“To provide or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals, who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life”
Achievements and Performance
The ending of Covid restrictions has meant that for the first time since 2019 we can were able to undertake a full year of fundraising in 2023.
The year began very well with the New Year’s Day swim which raised over £2140 and set the tone for the year. A new event for 2023 was the concert by Cor Tadau Choir in St Davids Cathedral which was very successful and raised nearly £4000. We are hoping to organise a similar event in 2025.
The other events we undertook included

An afternoon/evening celebration for one of our members, who unfortunately died, and which raised over £2600

The May Walk which raised over £1346

A unique event for 2023 was the Coronation Street Party organised by the City Council. We assisted by providing food for the event

Organising the food to support the Prostate Cymru Big Walk in July and the Big Breakfast in November

We assisted with the St Davids Carnival by providing martials and collecting buckets. We also acted as martials for the switch on of the St Davids Christmas lights.

Helping with the Solva FA barbecue

We organised Pancake Day races and an Easter Egg Hunt for local children
Financial Review
We remain in a sound financial position (see financial statement for 2023). We raised £16359 in the year and the balance in hand on 31 December 2023 was £11117.
We agreed donations to deserving causes totalling £9,976 in 2023 with a further £4716 made in January 2024 from money raised in 2023.
Charity Set Up
The St Davids Penknife Club (1187151) is constituted as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The trustees for the year are shown below and they were all reappointed for 2024.
